Nose masks that is...

I've thought about the clear plastic route but for now I think I just want a nice black bra for the hood of the 850R.

Any recommnedations on brands? Obviously there is the ipd version but I'm not so fond of the "ears"...except I'm thinking these might be important for fit. What about Colgan? Any others?

Suggestions greatly appreciated http://********************/smile/emcocktl.gif

Re: Okay boys...let's talk bras (Broadwinged)

As a guy who has never owned one but knows people who have, the best bra out there (assuming you like your paint job) is NONE.

Bra's trap water and sand, which is essentially the same as wet sandpaper while driving.

if you already knew this and have made the decision to get one anyway, I will simply bow out of the conversation...

DON'T DO IT!!!!
A bra (nose mask) will destroy your paint in a very short time.
The clear bra (invisibra) is the way to go!

Agreed, bra's are a real DUMB idea. They trap water and ruin the paint. Yes, you will have no chips, you'll just need to repaint the hood in a couple of years.

What's the point, they look real stupid

I had a bra on my car for approx. six monthes without any damage to my car's finish. Maybe what helped is that my car is garage kept and never was exposed to rain while bra was on. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I too have a bra on my S60. The Colgan black carbon fiber 2pc. I think it looks great. It actually improved the looks of a pitted front fender. It may or may not be ruining the paint - I don't plan on taking it off, so what? I have a bra on all my vehicles - a CR-V, a Mustang, a Mazda Millenia, and a truck. Recommended.

Wait until you DO take it off

It's like having "Jewish seat covers" on your couch.
Why buy a peice of furnitire and cover it with plastic/ Same applies here. WHy buy a cover for your front end? To "save the paint" from stone chips and have a large piece of vinyl all over the nose of your car

As I said, remove yours and you'll see what it has done to the front of your hood

Okay...passionate responses on both sides of the debate.

I live in rural wisconsin and the amount of rocks on the road leads to inordinate chipping.

Yes, I'd love to go the clear bra route but I'm still looking for someone closer than CHicago or Milwaukee to do it and it does seem to cost a bit. Also I've had a couple people tell me summer is best for this job and frankly the amount of chipping is going to rocket higher soon as the "pits" (sand, gravel, granite, limestone) open around here and even more tiny rock is on the road. I sometimes wonder at what point I repaint before I put on a clear bra...and repainting means I have to wait 6 months for the paint to cure before the clear bra.

Maybe an 850 in central WI was a bad idea?
Nope...having too much fun driving!

I thought the regular bra would be a good short term stop gap with the proper care.

I get your point JRL...and the image of the plastic covered couch does make my stomach roil a bit...

I'll tell you all what I do... Just cleaned her with PS21 last week and their wax too...nice. Have the Volans and Pirellis back on...ahhh SPring. Now if I could just figure out how to avoid rock chips...

Re: (Evil E)

I have clear 3M material on 2 of my S60's and it is invisible and works well.

Black vinyl bras will damage your car very much

My friend had a 1989 911 black with a black vinyl bra and it screwed the car up because he did not change it often and wash under it and wax a lot of time a year

Re: (JRL)

Alright, that's it. I've had it with you JRL.

My wife's grandparent's couch covers a *way* nicer than a nose mask.

I just need to make it a point not to wear shorts when I go to their house....
