As my S60 2.0T is about to arrive, I was wondering what synthetic oil & grade to use after the break-in period (about 6k miles/10k km).
The mediterranean climate here has very mild winters (2C/37F minimum) and warm (but not desert hot) summers (36C/98 F).
Since volvo recommends Castrol, should I go with GTX 10W-30?
They also have Mobil 1 0W-40 available here, isnt that a bit too thin for such climate?
Thanks!

Are you a Castrol believer since Volvo says so?

My vote is for Mobil 1 because of its wide availabilty. If Amsoil was widely available, I would probably go with that based on reviews I have read.

Buy the 10/30 Mobil 1. Can't go wrong with that suggestion. And 5/40 wouldn't be thin. It would have a higher VI than the 10/30.
0/40 or 5/40 would be okay as well in that climate.
Here in Michigan you usually can play with a winter oil and a summer oil. I am going to use Mobil 1 5/30 in the winter and am using GC (German Castrol) 0/30 for the summer. Why you ask???
The Castrol Syntec (GC means you have to get it only at Autozone and find the bottles that say made in Germany, hence German Castrol), 0/30 is actually almost a 40 weight oil if you look at the spec's.
