Got a message today saying that my oil was low, add oil. Checking the manual it says to add 1 quart if you see this message. My question is, what weight oil is in the car from the factory? I called the local dealer and they told me all they pump into their cars is 10W-30 Castrol GTX.
Thanks in advance for the help. BTW, the car has 6,000 miles on and stilll hasn't had it's first service and oil change.

happened to me once right when the weather changed. Don't know if that had anything to do with it... added a quart and it was fine.

You can't expect a new car to go 7500 miles without burning some oil.
Didn't you ever CHECK THE OIL??????????????????????

I did notice that the manual suggest you check it every time you fill the gas tank. But it also state the car should be cool. You can't get to the pumps with out a warm engine
can we get back to the question? Should I just use the 10W-30 as the dealer suggested or what?

For one quart, it really does not matter. 10w30, 10w40...particularly this time of year, no prob with either.

So you're going to run the factory fill to 7500 and then fill it with dealer bulk Castrol GTX for another 7500?
I doubt it will make any difference what you top it off with.
I trust this is a lease.

No, I own it. I wanted to get the first one done earlier, but days are a little busy with being a UPS driver and having a little girl that is only a couple months old.

First, don't believe the 7,500 mile oil change interval. It should be no more than 5K miles. I do mine every 3,750 miles or six months, whichever comes first.
I paid too much not to give it good service.

Watch the oil level pretty regularly until you hit your second service. My car burned oil until about 15,000 miles. At 23,000 miles now, the level hasn't dropped like it used to.

Re: Oil message (Cementups)

I've gotten the same message before. but mine was odd in that it was only 2500 miles after my last oil change, without hard driving. In any case it's not a big deal at this point so long as you get some more oil in there. Turbo'd engines eat oil, especially in warmer temps. Adding a quart or so of 10W-30 should be fine. When you do go in for your first service ask to have full synthetic put in.

Seriously, get that original fill out and get a synthetic fill in already. Your engine will thank you.

Let me tell you what happens when u don't monitor your oil. $7000 in damage!!! My 2005 wrx Sti haden't been chcked in like 6 weeks.. I don't know why but I got lazy and just didn't bother . I u se to check it in the begining and sometimes add 1 quart of oil. Anyways one hot day I was ripping on the freeway and when I slowed down I heard a ticking sound..It was a spun bearing.I pulled over checked my Dip stick and it was BONE DRY!! I had to tow it rebuild the motor I put forged pistons to hold more boost and that eats even more oil..After that I checked my Oil every 2-4 days and sometimes added some. When I 1st got my R I asked this question..Does the R burn oil? Most people said no. I noticed even with hard driving It barely burns oil but I still monitor it atleast once a week or when I drive it hard. I just swicthed to 10-w30 Mobile 1 Synthetic and with my Bsr chip I will be monitoring it even more often. Go synthetic and don't be lazy bros.. also make sure you check it on a FLAT serfuced road..lol

Re: (zigger)

Zigger: I know some WRX guys that swear by Amsoil and some other imported really expensive stuff (you know what I'm talking about?)
I've been a Mobil1 guy for ever but will probably go Amsoil for my new R. They have some kind of testing program where you send them samples, I'm going to look into that too.
A Volvo tech at Volvo of Toronto (and a 2004 R owner) said he 'thinks' Volvo is now using semi-synthetic from the factory. Ask your guy at Volvo Villa, see what he says. Just curious.
LTA

I believe the manual states that 5W40 is the recommended weight, but I don't recall for sure, and my car (with manual), is nowhere near me at the moment. Please check your manual, as I think you'll get the answer in less time than it takes you to log on to your computer. Yes, I know I didn't answer your question either! Sorry.
