I have a 1996 volvo 850 turbo, and I think oil is leaking out from the oil filler cap. The rubber seal on the cap seems to be in good shape, its not torn or cracked anyway. The engine seems to always have enough oil in it, maybe too much, but the dealer is the one who does my oil. Anyway, oil seems to be comeing out from the oil filler cap. I cleaned that area up, but then later that day it was all covered again. Its def oil, and its def. coming from the area of the cap. The reason Im not sure, is that maybe I didnt clean well, and its from when the car had the oil changed. I think its a problem and is expelling oil cuz its been like this for a long time, atleast a few months. Anyone give me any help, do I need to raplace the oil cap, can this be dangerous to the engine. Please help before I blow my car up.

Excessive crank case pressure can push oil out of weak seals. Inspect the PCV system.

A quick test:
With a cold engine, start it up and remove the oil fill cap. Put the palm of your hand on the opening and feel for either positve pressure or vacuum. You should feel slight suction (vacuum).

ive got it...

I have a worse oil leak at the moment too... but my mechanic said it was a big job, and I figured I'd wait til i wanted to put a more agressive wheel in the turbo to do it b/c it requires taking out the turbo or something... thats just what he told me... its quite annoying though...

i had some oil leaking from the cap just the other day.i turned the seal over and it has fixed the problem. i think the cause was that the seal had a in dent of were it seats, it just ment that the seal was too comfy on the rocker cover.try it you never no.
