Can anyone tell me the best kind of oil to use for my 1997 v40. it has done 119k miles on the clock <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/confused.gif" BORDER="0">

My USA 2000 S40 1.9L turbo has 117,000+ miles on it, and it is still using the 10W/30 motor oil weight that Volvo specified for it, although I changed to synthetic after the first drain at 7500 miles, and have continued using it since.<p>Being UK, check again the Volvo specified weight in your owner's manual.<br>Some motor oil is specified for high-mileage vehicles within the same weight ranges, to compensate for internal wear per its formulation. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emcocktl.gif" BORDER="0">

I'm not familiar with the 97 V40. If it has a turbo, definitely use a synthetic motor oil in the grade that is appropriate for your climate and driving habits and change it every 6K.<p>If no turbo, you can use a regular oil and change it every 3K.
