hi, i had the car at the volvo dealer today for an alignment and an oil change. i brought 6 quarts of fully synthetic, which i was using for the last 25k miles already. i told them about it and that the oil is in the trunk, as usual. after the car was done and we were about to leave i put something in the trunk and what do i see - all the oil, untouched. i asked the service guy what happened, he said he forgot to write it down and tell the mechanics about it so now i have regular oil in it.
since we had to go to an important appointment we didn't have time to have them change it again.
so here is my question: should i leave the regular oil in there until the next change or take it out and put the fully synthetic one in?
we did about 150 miles since then.
btw, we have a 2005 s60t5 with about 77k miles on it.
thanks
fritz

Re: oil change problem (fritzlovesmary)

Damn retards well anyways... Is it a problem, no not really but I would go back and make them drain and change the filter and do the job the way they were told... I wouldn't have even left the dealership / shop before talking to whoever I needed to to make sure that what I asked for was done... Not your fault you had that appt but don't let them off the hook... I am sure you didn't think you needed to supervise your own oil change that you specifically requested... Make them fix it and request to oversee the process... To make sure it is done right. ... When all said and done request a paycheck for your time wasted and skills utilized as supervisor.

Wow .. that is an easy question!
You asked him to use your oil.
He did not.
Take car back and tell him to follow original agreement/contract.
Only pay labour for one change.
Do not pay for his crappy oil which he costs him $5 and he charges you $30.
Then you will be in the same position as per your original contract (albeit having crappy oil running in your car for a few days).
http://volvoforums.com/forum/s...53055
http://www.volvo-forums.com/t2...m.htm

Re: (StarmanDXE)

thanks for the answers - and sorry about the cross-posting ( i guess i was exaggerating a little). unfortunately that dealer is about 100 miles away, so i have to see when i can make it there again - good thing i can use my cannondale to go back and forth to work
thanks again
fritz

Owned? For getting maximum opinions from different forums? Sounds thorough to me.
Regardless, There is only one person to blame, your service advisor. I doubt the tech did anything wrong. Your engine hasnt blown up, and its not leaking oil, so thats about all your gonna get with an "oil and filter change".
You should be able to go back to the place, if its reputable, and have it done correctly, on their dime. There is no need to be a douchebag about it, just be frank, and talk to a manager.
No damage has been done to your engine running dino oil in it for a few days or even a week. Just get it swapped out, even if you have to do a drain and fill yourself.

Re: (Turb04S60)

i was never really satisfied with that dealer - ontario volvo in california - anyway (not just because of that oil issue). i have always been at bozzani volvo in west covina and thought them to be very good, thorough and reliable - but unfortunately they closed down a few month ago
can anybody recommend a good dealer in the los angeles area, preferably on the eastern side?
fritz

How far is Encinitas from you?? I think there is one there but the only other one I know of is down here in San Diego. Why not just change it yourself?? Its not that hard and you definitely know what's getting put in your engine, but if you have a warranty I guess you should go to the dealership. I thought the Volvo dealerships used synthetic on the S60's anyways??

Re: (chillidawg)

yes, the car is still under the CPO warranty until 100k miles, that's why i like to take it to the dealer, in case they fine anything else.
encinitas is pretty far from where we live, thanks anyway.
fritz

Re: (Cjones16)

Just keep the oil in there for 3K and tell the dealer the next oil change is on him. Dino oil will be just fine for that time period. Your turbo wont' crap out. Least of your worries, it would be PCV possibly clogging would be the issue but in 3K not to worry.
Probably half if not more of Volvo's on the road are running non synthetic oil. Dealer out here (not that I would ever have them change my oil), puts Valvoline in for all it's standard oil changes.
Oil technology and science has changed for the better over the last 5 years or so.
