replaced my VMS one with this small one that does a better job...works perfect on my 850 and S60R...

4/18 revised

the plastic fittings that the oil catch can comes with and the 5/8 id hose are sufficient but if you race or have a tune and want to reduce positive crank pressure then do this.
I drilled and tapped out oil catch-can to fit larger in and out fittings...3/8 pipe thread tap and fittings home made to fit 5/8 hose same thing but the hole in the can is now larger on the inside of the fitting and is able to move more air and I also removed the steel mesh from the oil can all together ......see pics.

new way

i made the fittings from below.

here is my install thread on 850...

not at all...i just emptied my 850 one and there was a teaspoon full I dumped it and wiped it out with paper-towel and that was that.

nice looking part. does this replace the plastic box in the pcv system?
unfortunately , no.

Thanks for update and the source in the link above. Just put in an offer and will use it instead of the larger one I got from a vendor here.
Great now a Turbo and a catch can I need to sell :( . Keep the good mods coming

i don't own a camera...I own a 25$ a month Metro PC phone that has a camera...would you like me to snap some pics with that or the sony? let me know please...cause you know I will....:D:D:D

Douggy, have you tried packing scouring pad into the breather? Old trick from one of my turbo buddies, gives the oil vapor something to coalesce to. I use either the gold or the copper ones so they don't rust.

no problem, yes ...also there are better ones that are brand name.

O my, thats a pretty penny he wants.
yes they do...lets just say I got very very lucky with the 2 I bought.

got mine the other day.

I can see you did not use the AWFUL plastic that it comes with. What size are the barbs on the bras fittings ? Also how much hose and what size will I need ?

Thanks, its going in Wednesday

hose is from JY ...barbs are from local hardware store to fit the hose and can threads...didn't pay attention what size it was just had the hose with me to fit it...i know i did not like the hose that it came with...it was too thick.

Does ( or anyone ) know the stock diameter of the PCV ? Just trying to do my mesenplas before it heads to the shop

i don't, but you will need a hose that plugs inside the upper part of that back elbow hose on left(you will push it inside) and the WaterPEX fitting in the middle...don't pay attention to valve on the right...useless

like so bellow...MB clamp on left is once again from Local JY of off 1986 MB fuel pump and on right from Nissan Maxima...hard to find clampy's that size and that nice and stainless steel and let me just stop..

I'm looking into getting one... Should it have a built in screen inside the can? Doesn't that help with the vapors and prevent them from entering the intake more than just an empty catch can would?

mesh is good and the separation running down between incoming and outgoing is a must and that is what helps to catch the incoming oil and making it stay in the can. Brillo pad part I would remove on a turbo vehicle...also know NOT all oil catch can are the same . I had a hollow one and it would catch about tea spoon full of oil in a month. This lill 1/5 size of a oil catch can, can do that in couple of days.

I know this question may frustrate some but I bring spoils to compensate. I found the company that makes the catch can; HERE is the link to customize your own can. Then use coupon code "CLUB15" for a 10% discount.

I've looked at a bunch of other threads but I'm left with some questions. So basically the can is intercepting the line pictured below, then the exhaust port of the can is attached directly to the PTC element on the intake pipe? My confusion is with the little hose that runs next to the piece that attaches to the PTC element.

So I intercept here to the intake side of the catch can? (this is the line running out the oem pcv box to the ptc element)

Then I run the can exhaust to here but what do I do with that little hose? Or do I have to plug the exhaust from the can before the line splits into two? Or do I make a brass T-off? Or is this supposed to be up to me and I'm asking for no reason?

I think that you are referring to the coolant line that parallels the PCV line. On '05 and later Volvos I think that the coolant line runs inside the PCV line. It's complicates this a little for you. Some people plug the ends of the coolant lines (or run a separate bypass) and run all rubber hoses for the PCV. The idea of the coolant line is to keep the oil hot and not let it cool and clump up. Does it work? I have no clue. Is is necessary. I don't know that either.

WTF is up with you people wanting to add a catch can to a perfectly good PCV system? Here is a hot tip, if you don't even know how the system works and that it works, DON'T **** WITH IT.

As someone who believes in only doing real performance mods, the amount of useless mods proliferating here is truly saddening.
