So my good freinds mom has a 05 V70R Grey/atacama She loves it to death anyways my buddy has a younger bros that is 17 and his mom added him to that car only (insurance dad drives a 745 they said no way) anyways..he loves my R and knows I have a Bsr PPc kit. He orderd one and installed the Bsr kit on the car this weekend. His mom has noo clue so I was over at the house today and I asked her so how is the car feeling lately.. she replies.."I dunno but it's been really fast lately" lol..I laughed so hard and said hmm usualy the summer time makes it slower. Anyways I hope he doesn't screw her over with warranty I told him to just flip it back to stock when he isn't driving it. I just thaught this was funny..

If someone voided my new-vehicle warranty without my permission, I would not be "LOL".
- Mark

A 17 year old new driver is given permission to drive a new $45,000 vehicle, and instead of repaying that trust by being RELATIVELY responsible, he spends $1,000 and potentially voids the warranty without telling his parents?
Some very small part of me says that I might have done this when I was 17 if I was ballsier and stupider, but the adult in me says that this is just in no way funny. And yes I am aware that the use of the PPC is low risk in terms of warranty problems. But that's just not a cool thing to do.

Man you guys are uptight! Out of all the trouble a 17 year old kids can get into you'd be upset he spent 8 or 900 and improved the performance of you car.
Anyway, just my 2 euro cent

No that's not the point. The point is he has Voided the warranty on his MOTHERS car and if something goes wrong one day (which will because he abuses the car) and she brings it in for service they may give her problems.

If the kid had said "hey mom and dad, I want to make the car faster and spend my own money", completely different story.
Almost as bad as modding the car and not telling your wife!

Dad drives a 745, mom a VR, and a 17 year old kid just popped a grand for a softloader. Yes, the kid is an irresponsible idiot but methinks warranty loss won't dent the pocketbook.
At least he'll be safe when he wraps it around a tree. Hopefully, there's no one else with him or seriously hurt in his recklessness.
And BTW, what is...CHIPED?

Oh man, pretty funny story... I personally don't know any 17 year old with an extra G to blow, but I know me and my friends would have done the same thing if given the opportunity... and I agree, doesn't really sound like the family is hurtin' for money when the mom drives a VR... nice to see a mom with such good taste actually haha

I was itching so bad to drive my Dad's Porsche Turbo that on more than one occasion when he was out I would warm-up the car in the garage and then do 1st and 2nd gear sprints up the driveway. At the top, I was too nervous to do a K-turn so I would ever so slowly inch down the driveway in reverse
Regards,
Derek

Re:

What I find funny about this thread is that the reason most of our kids won't have a chance to "mod" their parents' car has nothing to do with whether we let them behind the wheel. Fact is, most of us will have done it already!
-Eric
