I have a 2000 V70XC with 70k and the CEL came on, so I took it to autozone and they read out code 0455. The guy at the store told me that I probably just need a new gas cap. I read somewhere that it could be a vaccum line.
Will this impact the performance or hurt the car at all if I don't fix it?
Has anyone had this code before? If so, how'd you fix it?
Thanks!

Re: OBDII code 0455 help (austinJeff)

I've been manually resetting this code for a month now (I'll disconnect the battery). it usually will go 2-3 weeks after I reset it and then it will come back on. Because it doesn't come right back on I'm thinking it's not any kind of major leak. hopefully i just need a new gas cap, I'm gonna take it in next week.

I'd be interested to hear what the dealer tells you. Do you know if I can use any gas cap or do I need a volvo gas cap?

I spent days looking for the leak and then figured it out when I filled the car with gas and then went off to wash the dirty thing... As I was treating the passenger rear wheel I could see gas that had leaked from the top of the tank and ran to the bottom... Replaced the o-rings the following day and all was fine.
Now one thing to keep in mind, a smoke test is cheap and very fast way to diagnose a leak. You may want to do this as a first measure after replacing the gas cap.
Cheers,
Prospero

There are some decent shops that have a machine much like a fog machine...they will inject smoke into the system with a non-heated / inert fog and then you can look for any places where the fog is leaking from.
This takes all the guesswork out of testing soo many things.
Cheers,
Prospero
