So I may be shipping my car here (der Bronx) and I want to find a place where I can wash the R myself and prevent wheel and paint damage. Do any NY R owners know of any self car-washing places? Thanks and I hope this thread doesn't get deleted.

Sweet thanks pafox. I've actually been here for about 8 months but just didn't bring the car over. Yea I'm in an apartment complex with a pretty secure garage. I just hope I survive NY drivers and I hope my R's suspension survives NY potholes.

I gather that you're in the Bronx from your post, so this might not be much help, but I used to go to a place in Brooklyn (where I was living) around 9th and Court streets. It's right under an MTA overpass as well as the the entrance to the Gowanus xpwy; doubles as a Ryder rental spot. They have rinse/wash/wax bays, and if you get there early enough in the morning, no one looks at you cross-eyed for bringing your own bucket, soap, etc. and doing it the right way. There's also a non-operational bay where I used to wax. It takes a little longer, working around other people, and it will be covered with NYC air (read "dirt") before you're done, but mornings there shining up my ride are some of my greatest memories of my last days in the City.
Eat a slice for me.

I used that place too. Never any problems.
But on this topic (and purely hypothetical), why the hell is Westchester such a freakin' hard place to get a good car wash? In Denver I used to fill the tank and get a $2 brushless wash... just drive in and sit, no rails to screw-up the rims. However, I've already taken one major chip in the rim at a local shop and there is no "trackless" wash around here. WTF?
OK. Done complaining. Philup, good luck and welcome to NYC.
