Noticed burning oil smell after hard driving

Went for a drive this weekend, got pretty "enthusiastic". Not launching, but some hard pulls. Noticed after a slightly higher rev (5-5.5k) there was a slight aroma of burning oil. Only happened a few times.

Is this normal? Any idea what's up?

I'm having the same issue. I also get a burning oil smell while coasting/decelerating in gear over 3 grand. Like if I'm going downhill in 3rd gear or downshifting to slow down I will start to get the smell of burning oil. I'm due for a PVC overhaul so I will take care of that than see where I am at

"I'm due for a PVC overhaul"
most likely

I'm my opinion nothing is wrong with yr R....I've had mine since 2011 and it always does that because our turbos burn oil slightly especially when you are in boost.....hence why our cars burn about a quart of oil in between oil changes....if you think yr Pcv system is bad do the rubber glove test over the dip stick while its on blows up Pcv is bad sucks = good

yes and no...when your PVC is not functioning 100% it'll push oil through your shaft in your turbocharger and that is the oil you smell...tune=higher boost=more pressure=PCV not able to handle it if not 100%=burning smell from your exhaust pipe...many different scenarios, but that is one of them thats why I made my PCV hoses 5/8=burning smell gone

Standing oil is usually a cracked PCV hose or bad oil cap.

If I rip on my car I'll get burning smells too, it's just the nature of the beast. I mean these cars are almost hitting 10 years of age.

A little pain for some gain.

Also if your not the one doing the oil change then there is a good chance your mechanic is filling too quickly and spilling over the lip and down under the coil cover. Happened to me when I first got my car, now I don't trust anyone to fill it.....damn splash guard.

lolol...I know what you mean...i did not want to..it just happen that way and I came up with something better.

So if I get a PVC valve from an s70 and file it down to look like that... And get everything else specific for the R... It will make my PVC system operate more efficiently?

i would try it now and see if you notice anything.
