Well car is running great but I noticed this morning that there are some very slight issues with the leather on the drivers seat right on the left side bolster. Looks like its been repeatedly and vigorously rubbed and the leather is barely starting flake. Is this something that can be easily fixed with a leather cleaner/repair kit? Or is this something that on my next business trip I should complain to the dealer about?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: Nordcap leather issues.... (Tekk)

The soft leather used in these cars, although extremely comfortable, is not terribly durable, IMHO. I take extra care when getting in and out of the car, moving the seat back so that I don't rub on the bolster. My car, when I got it used, was showing some early signs of wear. I now treat the seats regularly (around once a month) with Lexol, and now they look better than when I bought the car. I have even used a little blue shoe polish that I found in a closet somewhere and even a dark blue marker to touch up some very small areas. Granted, not as good as having it dyed, but it worked okay.
Since you have a new car, I would bring it up to the dealer and see how they respond.

And since it's SO new, it should hopefully be a warranty-covered repair.
One of my customers had a leather issue with the rear seat armrest, and we took care of that under warranty.

Same problem, I will ask my dealer about it too. I had this happen on the same bolster on my M3, they gave me new leather.
I was wondering if possibly it could be "buffed" out with leather ointment/treatment but I'd rather have them warranty it if possible.
Appreciate the responses

I have the exact same problem in the same exact spot. I am going to bring this up to my dealer and try and get it replaced. I am extremely careful with everything on my cars and regularly treat the leather seats with conditioner.

Meguiars makes a nice product that helps a lot with that. It's their Leather treatment and it comes in a little reddish bottle (Wal Mart, Auto Zone etc...) it's like a moisturizing lotion. Stay away from the wipes and the foam... they make it look nice, but dry out the leather fast.

I've had my leather replaced by the dealer under the 12 Month/12,000 mile warranty for trim/squeeks/rattles.

Same problem here but w/ 64k miles.. I use leather conditioner on a regular basis and still happened even though I'm careful getting in and out. I have the extended warranty but I'm sure it isn't covered....

Re: Nordcap leather issues.... (Tekk)

I am in the same boat. My wife is unhappy with it.
It's a dilemma for the automakers. People want buttery-smooth, supple leather. They don't want leather that looks and feels like vinyl. They also want durability.
The problem is that it's difficult to achieve both goals simultaneously. The techniques and treatments that improve durability and color-fastness also degrade the rich texture of fine leathers. This is precisely why synthetic materials largely replaced natural leather years ago.
So it ends up being a choice the automaker has to make... My Dad used to buy Buicks with leather. As I recall, that stuff felt more like cardboard than anything else, but it wore like iron! Contrast that to an old Jag or Alfa which will have seats that look and feel like a well-worn bomber jacket.
Volvo's decision was different than Buick's, and we are living with it -- for better or worse.
Perhaps other folks here have experience with Mercedes or BMW's that they can compare to our situation.
Driver seat leather has been replace just before the car, V70R that is, ran out of warranty.
I have never used any leather conditioners of any kind. Only a wet towel to clean. Did receive compliments about the condition of the Nordkap leather in my V70 at one of the Nurburgring R meetings so I don't think conditioning will help, maybe it even does more harm..

FWIW, I priced Nordkap seat covers as I thought of getting alcantara inserts done, the top was approx. $700 and the bottom was approx. $600. So for roughly $1000-$1300 (depending on the % of discount on the items) you could redo one seat out of warranty.
