So, I have recently had the urge to get a V70 of some sort. In an ideal world, I'd be at the dealer ordering a new V70R, but I have a budget, and need something I can use for work, so back to reality...
I don't care for FWD, so I'm looking at AWD V70's, and really like the idea of a V70R, something in a '00 model would be nice. I have a couple of questions, though.
Is it as simple as replacing the shocks on the Nivomat equipped cars to be able to lower it? Any lowering suggestions?
I generally don't care for automatics, but with the V70R, obviously, I have no choice. Anyone track their auto-equipped V70? I won't do it often, but I want the option. Also, is the automatic pretty responsive? I had an Audi A6 2.7T with the Tip, and I hated it. I always caught it off-guard, it seems, and when it would catch up, it was not the smoothest thing in the world.
Any other feedback is appreciated as well. Thanks.

Hello,
Welcome!
Since you are down in Texas, is there a specific reason why you want AWD?
There are significant differences between the FWD/AWD rear suspension system. The FWD models have more suspension options with regards to springs, shocks/struts, and coilovers. In addition, the FWD V70's come with 5-speed manual transmissions.
If I were in your shoes, I'd look for a nice FWD V70 T5 with 5-speed manual. You may be sacrificing some creature comforts (suede seats, SC-901, aluminum trim) that are standard trim on a V70R, but you can easily fit them to your T5 and have a car with less maintenance item$ (think angle gears, tires that must be replaced in four's, etc).

FWD vs. AWD

I had a GTi a few cars back, and the only thing I didn't like about it was the FWD. My driving style tends toward the aggressive side, and I like the grip afforded by the AWD system. My current car is a Subaru Legacy GT, and before that was the A6, both AWD. For daily driving, I just prefer the AWD.
One thought I've had on this whole topic is that I could get an AWD/Auto car for daily driving, and then pick up a FWD/Manual car for track use. I really need to take my aggressive driving to the track, for the sake of my license and safety! FWD on the track doesn't bother me as much, given the opportunity to set the car up properly to take advantage of the FWD layout, but for daily use, I really like the AWD.
Re: Noob / Future Owner - V70R Questions (OnRamp)

The V70R had a bunch of upgrades from '99 to '00. The tranny went from 4-speed to 5-speed. The turbo was bigger, the wheels/front spoiler are different and the exhaust is dual instead of single (for looks ). If you are looking for a V70R I would stick to the '00.

These are titanium pegs on this laser blue right?

I think it looks good. And it makes it a little more authentic since its the original wheel.

those are titanium pegs 18" not sure what you mean by making it look more autheic since it's the original wheel. Those wheels are from an s60/V70R, and also I am almost postive that I have seen 16" satellites in silver. Huh, eh well. 18" titanium pegs look really clean on those cars.

Re: (Greenchunks)

18" Pegs aren't the OEM rims on the 98 to 2000 R's though. So it's not truely authentic to that model..
Silver 16" Satellites

What is your budget? If you can spring for mid-20's P2 R's are getting into that range now- just a thought.

Re: (Greenchunks)

Sorry, I typed that out wrong. I was trying to say that the darker color looked good with the laser blue but I would go with the satellite over the pegasus because it was the proper wheel for the year.

Re: (Kaizai)

I think we're misunderstanding eash other, all I said was 16" Satellites were STANDARD.
Frankly, I never even knew about the Ti Sats (16 OR 17) until we looked up what was available for a 2000.
They look nice, they're finished differently than Pegs, they have a semi gloss clear where Titans and Pegs have flat clear, changes the color and the look entirely.
Personally I liked Greg's wagon when he came over to my house with bright Pegs and lowered, thought it looked sharp on Laser Blue

Come on now, ya'll totaly trashed this n00b's thread
If you want to lower a nivomat with different springs there is an adapter you can buy to keep the nivomat shocks in place. You can also replace the nivomat shocks with Koni or simular shocks.
The auto is a turd from a stop, my 240hp 98 V70R awd auto ran a 16.1 @ 90mph with the old style G-Tech, all bone stock with 115K on the meter.
