Looking for advice. I have a US 00' V40 with the 4 speed auto. Atr various speeds, (35 mph and 45 mph) I get a clunk noise from the transmission whenever I start to accelerate. The dealer states it is normal behaviour of the torque converter but I don't ever recall any auto making this kind of noise.
If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I do not recall any clunking when the 2000s were around...I would definitely have it checked out.

Well I got the dealer to take a look at the noisey transmission. Yet again they were unable to diagnose any fault as there were no error codes logged. Well silly me, but I wouldn't expect a noise to cause a code to be logged. Anyway the dealer stated that the noise is normal. I feel that I am being fobbed off. Can anyone give me advice on how to proceed?

Thanks

I have a 2000 S40 with 51,000 + miles, and I have NEVER had the noise you describe!! Is your trans. fluid nice and rosey pink? I had to have my tranny flushed at 33,000 miles due to fluid discloration from the winter's driving in using my DSA to its fullest measures!

If you have to flush the tranny, use an independent dealer-service who uses the BG- PF5 power flush and fluid exchange service procedure, whereby ALL of the old tranny fluid is flushed out of the tranny with the dissolved deposits due to a pre-treatment of a cleaning chemical. A conditioner is installed along with fresh fluid to extend the fluid life, and conditon the tranny seals, so as to prevent leaks and expensive repairs. The manufacturer of this equipment recommends the procedure every 30,000 miles, vs Volvo's recommendation ONLY WHEN THE FLUID CHANGES COLOR, OR AT 50,000 MILES WHEN ONE PULLS A TRAILER.

Jone,

Thanks for the info, the dealer did flush the transmission fuid at 27,000 miles as it had oxidised. But it did not cure the problem. My view is the dealer knows there is a fault but is not sure how to cure it and as such is now fobbing me off with the excuse that all 00 S/V40's do it.

I shall try another dealer next month to see if that helps. Can anyone recommend a dealer in Northern VA , DC or Maryland.
