Local dealers are telling me that new V8's are quite rare, having to reach down to Annapolis, MD for a recent purchase. Aside from a lack of worthwhile current Volvo promotions (either lease or purchase), any knowledge out there re: availability over the next few months?
I'm at the end of my current (nicely subsidized) two year lease and contemplating 6 month extension vs. purchase off lease. One dealer offered me a purchase price of ~29K which, coupled with the past 24 months payments, still makes the total cost quite a bit less for what was a ~ $54K car. Was hoping Volvo might bring a subsidized finance rate for purchase this time, instead of lease.

Re: No more V8's ? (Radii)

I thought that Volvo was currently offering $6,250 and 5 year maintenance covering even wear items. Sounded like a pretty good promotion to me.

As you're finding out, V8's are a rare and dying breed. The $55K-$60K price didn't sell well enough over a closely powered T6 for $10K less. Some dealers still have NEW 2007's on their lot.

Re: No more V8's ? (GrecianVolvo)

If you want a S80 V8, you'd be better off ordering a 2010 V8 before production ceases.
And Magoon -- $58k for a loaded up S80 V8 is STILL a bargain compared to an E550 4Matic or 550i (which is not available with AWD), and A6 4.2Q. YOU may think its overpriced; but I think it is a value car for what it offers. If the 2008 lease numbers didn't suck, I'd be driving a 2008 S80 V8 instead of a XC90 V8.

I just saw a commercial today for the new Merc E class, and thought "um, the S80 has had ACC for 3 generations already" (Mercedes even stole the coffee cup - time to take a break thing).

Re: No more V8's ? (njb8199)

Absolutely agree it's a great value vs a comparably optioned Merc / BMW (not to mention the best seats in the business, bar none). I was waiting for a similar subsidized lease on a 2008. Didn't happen.... so far. Money factor (or the equivalent interest rates) are still quoted to me in the 5% range.
For long term ownership, I think a V8 would have fewer repair issues vs a turbo (the ~40 extra HP doesn't hurt either, and the MPG is not significantly different).

Brad is right, you could do an OSD and custom configure your car, and have a third party bank lease the car for you. (your credit union, if you're a member of one, etc.)
If the car is a keeper, especially with the 5/60 program, and if the monthly payment is a factor, you could do a 72 month finance plan.

I wonder how much the dealer's would discount those '07s to get them off their lots.

They are not new. Check the mileage out - manager's drives, demos, etc. So called - "never been registered"...

Re: No more V8's ? (MagoonR)

Once in my past I drove 4-hour hard bargain trying to get 17K Stanza XE for onder 15K. The dealer wanted to help me, because his mother-in-law last name was the same as mine, and I was FOB Russian-Jewish immigrant, and it was my first brand-new car, so he gave me previous MY almost 22K GXE with all bells and whistles, including trunk-lid rack (if you remember those) for 14995. It was showroom demo with 1300 mi.
My point is - those cars were already kind of written off the books (Nick could tell us how exactly) and dealer has a lot of room to negotiate on them.

I am gonna go drive an Infiniti Convertible - that may be the one...
