I can't believe what a sc*m sucking company Sunoco is.
*&^%$%%#
Went to fill up the R and lo and behold, no more Ultra 94.

Their new "Premium" is 91, 20 cents more for "Ultra 93"

What a crock of s**t.
So I went to check the other gas stations in the area, all were still 93 for premium (whew) at a MUCH cheaper price. I have a fairly aggresive ECU map so I used to use Ultra most of the time unless I was just doing a trip on the turnpike
I guess I'm through with Sunoco for good. (Too much sulphur in their fuel anyway)

This change was in the last 2 days (at least at my nearest station)

Here in the last 2-3 weeks. Something about the clean air act they told
me. They had to add ethanol or something and they could not do it with
the 94

We still have race gas GT100 here and I would guess you do to so it is not
so bad just spike the 93

It's the elimination of the anti-knock additive MTBE which, although cheap and effective, is outlawed in ever more states as a cancer agent that shows up in ground water.

Sunoco has eliminated MTBE and that maybe not due to PA outlawing it. It maybe that they've had to for another state and don't want to do separate formulations.

CA started the MTBE crusade. Thanks for that.

Does that mean race gas is next to go. Does it have this MTBE or some other anti knock?

MTBE is an oxygenate that was added to gasoline in order to obtain the same octane level while lowering the amount of hydrocarbons burned (for a cleaner, more emmissions friendly burn).

Yes, CARB pushed this "wonder additive" which is now suspected to be super duper carcinogentic and is being replaced in the NorthEast with Ethanol. The problem with MTBE is it's very soluable in water. It would rather bond with water than the soil. Once in groundwater, it is much harder to remove than even gasoline.

Lovely.

They stopped selling 94 up here a year or so ago (Boston area). Maybe more...

Could you use an octane booster in a can to bring octane levels up higher?

Octane Boosters will not sufficiently raise the octane. Find some 100 octane.

yeah, safe drinking water sucks!

I think he meant started the crusade to ADD MTBE to gasoline to lower emissions, not to remove it for safety reasons.

yeah, sucks big time, we still have 94 in Cherry Hill, but up in Edison, NJ where I work, they've switched to Ultra 93.
I guess the bright side is that this summer when gas $$ hit the roof, we can put 91 in and save a few bucks.

Something odd about this since Sunoco.ca has this on their Canadian web site: "Like our other ethanol-enhanced gasolines, Ultra 94 is responsible to the environment because of its low sulphur content. This commitment to the air we breathe is highlighted by the EcoLogoM environmental product designation on all of our gasolines."
Read more here: http://www.sunoco.ca/default.aspx?ID=2390

We still have 94 in Toronto (as of my fill-up Friday night).
