Re: No more AWD (Jnell20)

there were some threads talking about running fwd, as to gain fuel efficiency ,, iirc people mentioned the need to swap out a few parts (axles?)up front to prevent issues but the exact reason escapes me and search is failing me as well-hopefully someone else can chime in.

Re: No more AWD (Jnell20)

Why not just buy a T5 and start from modding from there?
Seriously.
Maybe I'm just crazy but, IMHO, it's a better starting place for someone who really wants to mod a FWD car since you won't have to fart around with or worry about the 4C and it was built to be a FWD car from day one.
The R's interior pieces are all cosmetics that could easily be carried over, as could the bumpers, wheels, etc.
Or maybe you don't care about modding. Dunno.
-Eric

Re: No more AWD (firehawk618)

You're right. It was a brain-fart on my part. I actually meant the driveshafts to the front wheels but my mind was on decoupling the the rear wheels. My bad. Maybe I'm still wrong.

Yea removing the prop shaft and the angle gear together would probably net you 100 lbs of weight savings, the viscous coupling maybe another 35.

Re: (Big Will)

I believe a GEN 1 AWD is about a little over 200 lbs heavier than a non AWD
A P2 is about all of 90 lbs or so heavier

Yank the driveshaft AND the Bevel Gear if you're going to bother disabling the AWD. You can see the drive sleeve in the pic. That needs to be secured IF it's not a secure fit on the differential spline - mine ain't goin' nowhere - a modified CV boot would do to prevent it "walking".

The axles can stand well over stock HP -
The Bevel Gear Housing cannot

Mine is out until I get a my spare resealed - the handling with AWD is vastly superior
