No LTE service MY 2022

LTE service on my 2022 xc60 has been out for almost a week. I tried resetting - hold Defrost button for 20 seconds then Home button for 30 seconds - that didn't resolve the issue. On call says take it to dealer. Next appointment at dealer is in March and I'll have to leave the car for 48 hours (no loaners)

Anything else I can try, while I look for a dealer who can offer better service?

When you say it's "out" you have an X?

Super common issue. The modem and/or antenna in these cars are completely ****ed. It's a widespread issue with 2022 models that Volvo seems to care very little about or they wouldn't have let the issue slide for the better part of 6 months. Only thing you can do is bring it back to the dealer and hope for a FW/SW fix when Volvo finally gets off their asses and does something.

For reference, I've lemoned mine as I didn't pay 70K+ for a half-assed non working infotainment system and non-functional critical SOS functionality.

UPDATE: TLDR - It's resolved itself sometime between last night at ~18:00 and 09:00 this morning.

I had to run to a meeting this morning and tried to start my car with the application and it didn't work (iOS 5.9.1). Strange. I've heard some folks have had issues but for the most part it always works for me and since the failure last Saturday it continued to work (on both iOS 5.9.0 and 5.9.1). I went out and started it old-school to melt the light snow from overnight, went back inside to finish my coffee, grab my coat, etc. When I got back into the car I noticed it; LTE with full coverage! The car just sat overnight in its usual spot in the driveway (garage spot is my temporary winter gym!) I had driven it close to 450-miles since last Saturday without a single ability to use navigation, streaming anything, etc. and this morning it's working again. I immediately turned the car off and back on again and it still worked. And it's worked each of the two additional engine starts since then! I had tried the suggestions of @WhoaVolvo and others middle of last week but they didn't do anything then. I'm glad it's back but it's a mystery...

I lost my LTE signal a couple of days ago and now GPS is searching, on my MY 2022 V90 AAOS. I have tried holding down the centre button to reset, but all that happens is the screen goes into cleaning mode. I have also held down the front defrost button but all that happens is the defroster comes on when I eventually let go. Furthermore, the car is greyed out in the useless APP, i.e. it would appear the APP cannot contact the car.
Any suggestions short of having to go to he dealer?
Thanks

For the center button you need to hold it for >20-seconds. When it says 'cleaning mode' just keep holding until it reboots. I also had the same experience you did with the front-defroster.

Mine was out for ~8.5-days and mysteriously came back on its own. Don't know why...

My service is back, I lost it exactly 2 weeks ago (on my bday SMH Volvo). After seeing others post that their service resumed after a restart I've been restarting every day to no avail. This morning it was just there up & running again.

So this must be some kind of service issue, can't see how it is anything else.

Looks like this could be a known issue. Volvo appears to have sent out a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) to service centers in early December. It appears it might be, "Active Service Campaign : A10140 Antenna Cover : Model Year 2021 and 2022 90 Series, XC60 and XC40 Item:A10140-2021-12-09".

Reference from a Polestar thread on Reddit:

I've had this antenna fix completed in December, and while it might have given me signal more often, I still have complete dropouts even when there is full AT&T LTE signal available on a nearby phone, so they've still not corrected this.

My LTE just went to an X and lost GPS, and Google function. I tethered the car to my phone and google answered so questions, but the GPS has me a stationary place while I am moving. Had a chat with customer care, we told me to go to the dealer big help.
Just got off the phone with the dealer first appointment 3 weeks. I am looking into Lemon laws and class act suits against Volvo for false advertising, anyone interested in joining, if it is viable?

This is a classic troll firm looking to try and make a case, in exchange for a piece of some possible pie. The most recent software 2.0 on Android cars improves reliability significantly. Not perfect. But much better.

Just heard from the dealer. Bringing my car in May 9, he said that they disconnect the battery and usually fixes all problems. Also stated that there is or will a software update to permanently fix the problem

Keep you posted, meanwhile using google maps on my phone for gps!!!!.

I know that they are on back order. I am taking a loaner car and will return it when it is fixed! If it is not fixed that day I will book a second appointment, and so on until the fourth appointment then lemon law kicks in. Hopefully it will be fixed. The service manager told me that they pull the 12 volt battery and reset the modem ,Volvo has new software that they will load and that should fix the problem.

This is my 5th Volvo and maybe the last Lexis is looking very very, good at this point.

I just found the article may be helpful to some:

I've been replying to threads about this, but figured it would be more productive to get this up top and more exposure. Also, while my other replies were more emotional/opinionated, this one will be "just the facts."
What is the TCAM?
Stands for Telematics and Connectivity Antenna Module, and it's in the "shark fin" on the roof of your car. It basically controls all aspects of digital connectivity - LTE, GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, even your keys. TCAM issues can run the gamut from minor (temporary LTE outage) to severe (can't get into your car or start it). While the severe issue only impacts a SMALL number of users, it's not the sort of issue you want on a road trip.
What vehicles are impacted?
2021-2022 model years of the below vehicles:
  • Polestar 2
  • Volvo XC40
  • Volvo XC60
  • Volvo XC90
What's causing the TCAM issue?
There are numerous causes of TCAM issues, many of which are software related and can be solved with a reboot or by disconnecting/reconnecting the battery. And these kinds of issues have been around for years in a majority of cars. The purpose of this thread is to focus on a known defect - moisture intrusion due to a degraded or poorly completed seal. You don't need to open anything or have any mechanical expertise. A visual inspection of the base of the roof's "shark fin" will suffice. Here's an example from an XC40 (click me!) | One more example
The moisture can cause short and long term outages. Those in rainy climates (hello Portland/Seattle/Vancouver owners!) are more likely to be impacted.
This has been redesigned for the C40 to avoid this issue entirely, AS SEEN HERE (CLICK ME).
What's the fix?
Depends on the brand. Volvo and Polestar are currently handling this in different ways.
Volvo has released a technical service bulletin (TSB) to address it.
Active Service Campaign : A10140 Antenna Cover : Model Year 2021 and 2022 90 Series, XC60 and XC40 Item:A10140-2021-12-09
The fix is to inspect the TCAM, replace if any signs of moisture, and reseal the "shark fin" so that this doesn't happen again. Ideally. As you can see from the TSB, this is recent. Volvo released this to the field on December 9, 2021.
Polestar hasn't yet caught up to Volvo's TSB, so they're still fumbling in the dark. A wide range of advice is given from different resets to bringing it in for a firmware reflash to a full on TSB replacement. The service department gets reimbursed from Polestar/Volvo when they follow directions, so Polestar's techs in the field need this TSB before they can reliably and consistently fix this issue.
What can I do?
If you are not yet having this issue and want to avoid it, pay attention to the shark fin when washing your car. Don't hit it point blank with a pressure washer. You don't want to damage the seal. It's not super fragile, but it's not going to hold up to a short range blast either.
Inspect the seal periodically and, if it degrades, take it in to be resealed. If you don't moisture WILL get in, and you WILL eventually have an issue.
If you're accepting delivery of your car, inspect this seal. If a leak is present, refuse the car unless they agree in writing to fix it. One user noted that this part is NOT part of Volvo's dealer pre-delivery checklist, so you're more likely to catch it than they are.
And most importantly, complain (politely and professionally) - Contact us for personal support | Polestar US
If you're impacted by this issue, let them know how you feel. If you're looking to buy but this is a concern, let them know. Personally, it's the last issue preventing me from buying. And I'm messaging them once per week (until I give up or move on to another vehicle) to get them to acknowledge the issue via TSB to get us a more permanent fix.

Looks like I’m now a member of the no connection club. 5 days into ownership of new recharge, which I expected to be a long term family car, LTE connection and infotainment already broken.

car has been in either garage or perfect sunny weather driving, but just before losing LTE it collected a slight layer of condensation as lower evening temperatures set in.

At first I thought it was just a poor signal, but on closer look theres No connection under open sky and after resets.

it’s now been two days with no LTE, no app connection, android can’t process commands. I’m concerned about using the car for family because some people report TCAM issue escalating to “bricking”.

really undermines the idea of this being a family car.

now I’ll try to find the time to get to a service center and see if they can help. I’m not hearing any definitive, permanent solution. enjoyed the three days when the car worked, maybe time for another vehicle.

It isnt very likely that your car is just going to completely brick itself, but connectivity with the TCAM is definitely a known problem on some vehicles and there are plenty of TCAM replacements that have had to be done. You could definitely be experiencing this which the dealer will identify and order a replacement, but there is unlikely going to be a permanent solution you will be able to do on your own. It is unfortunate and its being worked on, but in the mean time schedule a shop visit and if you find yourself in a situation where you cannot unlock the doors with the keyfob, use the metal blade key to open the door and put the key fob in the cup holder and then unlock with the manual door unlock button and get the car to the shop.

Same thing happened to me... 2022 Volvo XC60 little less than a month having issues with the in-car modem and Google maps. I've tried to reset the modem but didn't work. LTE icon shows a X and GPS arrow not filled in

#46 ·
I don’t think resets solve the problem, maybe just temporarily help if anything. I needed a new TCAM due to failure, not related to any problem with antenna sealant. They told me my failure was NOT moisture. So maybe something goes wrong with running all the features like app, maps, OTA, etc.

With new TCAM I am not using app, updates, or any info sharing. Hopefully Volvo figures this out at some point. Going okay so far.

Get into service asap, because it can take a few weeks to investigate, get parts and install.

Hi just to let you know I had the same problem, reset did not work, so, I brought back to the dealefr 1,500 miles on the car, they disconnected the battery and reset still did not work. I took the car home and used my for phone for GPS, They ordered a new TCAM , took more than a week and then I brought it back top the dealer. A 90 minute job took 4 hours.

The car now is working, GPS, Google, etc. I believe the reason why Volvo does have a general recall is because the part and installation cost about $ 2,000 a car. So they would rather wait and see who complains and then replace them..The problem is the TCAM and it MUST be replaced. I told my salesman that this was the second visit for the same problem, my next visit is with a Lemon Law attorney, funny how they fixed!!!

Insist on a new TCAM!!

Good luck

The issue is not found in the hardware, unless you have a sealant issue.

It's a software issue. In the 2.0 and subsequent 2.1 releases, it's MUCH more stable (light years difference). You should update if you have not.

Some of the TCAM's find themselves in a "failed to restart" state, and thus need to be replaced. Again, software issue, not hardware. BUT, if you are affected by the software issue that renders the hardware irreparable, your SOL.

Not as cut and dry as one would think.

Makes sense. My TCAM failed with 2.0, car arrived new in 2.0, I never saw 1.9. Failed within a day of loading app and enabling all data features. Maybe just coincidence. The software complications are why I am avoiding using the app and most connectivity features until problems appear to improve.

volvo xc60 late 2022 T8 ER
1) park
2) place key in cupholder
3) press front defogger for 15 sec (until upper SOS light turns on)
4) press home button for 20-30 sec (until display turns off and back on)
5) settings -> connectivity -> vehicle sim data -> ON
6) settings -> connectivity -> WiFi -> ON and Volvo-car network connected (can take 40-50 sec)

everything is working now 🤓

  • make sure to disconnect apple carplay if connected
  • park outside
  • android data signal icon will still have the X showing

🤞
