No LTE service in 2023 T8

Love the drive and safety of this car, but boy this infotainment, I know we’ve all heard it before. No LTE service for days now, reset multiple times, tried every combination of windshield defroster button and reboots, nothing. Reset network settings, nothing. Meanwhile, the app is able to lock and unlock the doors, and it’s not Bluetooth because that’s all disconnected from my phone. I thought it must be the modem but if the app works then there’s service right? Am I crazy or does that make no sense?

Haven’t tried the 12v disconnect but honestly I don’t even want to deal with that, think I’m going to have to give in and take it in to the dealer, just don’t like them at all and there’s only the one within reach. Any other ideas to troubleshoot? Does this sound like it’s definitely the modem? If so, does that mean they will need to replace the entire modem? And if they do, is it easy to access or do they have to tear up things to reach it?

Contact the dealer about getting another sim card. You may also contact AT&T to make sure existing SIM card is still registered properly.

Interesting. Where do I find the sim info to give att? Is the actual SIM card somewhere I can reach myself? Thanks for the suggestion.

On P3s it was in glove box, but that no longer appears applicable. I googled and it seems sim card is now located behind the on call button. See Video.

Eject Card and the numbers on Sim card are what ties it to AT&T service.

Hmmm…that VIN isn’t working. Try re-entering the number or give one of our Wi-Fi experts a call at 1-866-706-5773.

You can also try having dealer furnish a new sim card, too.

Thanks for the video, seems there’s no sim card in the tray, it’s just an empty slot. The mystery continues lol. Assuming there’s a built in eSIM or something. Guess my next step will be to request a new sim from the dealer.

Tried a factory reset too but I get an error message “cannot be performed due to a communication error with the telematics module.”

At this point I’d say something’s definitely broken.

Did the LTE work when you first got vehicle? Or has it never worked? .... It would seem you should have a simcard inserted unless it does use E-Sim Now.

I found this video pertaining to the 2023:

It worked fine for months, then started losing connection for hours and it’d come back, that turned into a day here and there it’d intermittently go out and then randomly come back the next day, now totally out for days. Apparently it’s never had a sim in there, must have some sort of internal connection or something, yeah maybe eSIM not sure. Weird thing again is it works with the app to lock and unlock but earlier that started tripping out as well, and today I used the Volvo on call button while I had an X and no connection for maps, music, or anything else, but somehow it connected to someone who was basically useless and said take it to the dealer. Thanks for the video but unfortunately I’ve done all of that, does nothing. I made a service appointment for next Wednesday, let’s see if it comes back on its own by then or what happens. Sigh. Thanks for your help again.

Think that service visit is in order. Might be hardware related given there's no physical sim. I know you hate the dealer, but some trips are unavoidable.

Prior models used a physical sim, so was unaware Volvo went to an E-Sim.

TCAM based cars do use an esim style SIM. Depending on how old the software is, there is much newer software that improves reliability SIGNIFICANTLY. I would suggest to just ensure that OTA downloads are enabled in the settings and then drive around for a while so the software downloads. You don't get the "update available" prompt until the update package downloads completely. The current software as of today, is 2.9

When did Volvos upgrade / start using TCAM?

Op can't seem to get a connection, or at best it's unreliable and sporadic. Given that scenario, an OTA update may not be feasible.

Dealer may need to load software update on site, and if that doesn't fix, check that E-Sim is properly provisioned with AT&T.

Worst case, the TCAM is faulty and he needs a new module.

Given it's a 2023, probably easiest to let dealer troubleshoot.

Any vehicle with Android infotainment, is using TCAM.
Now your testing my memory, but I believe Model Year 22.5 is the last Sensus based XC90's / S60's / XC60's etc.. all of MY'23 is Android/TCAM

Thanks, I’ve been updating as soon as they’ve all come out. I. Can’t update to 2.9 because my car won’t find Wi-Fi anymore, it just searches and searches and eventually stops. My app notifications are on too, still haven’t received a notification that the update is ready forme through the app either. I don’t know, since my Volvo care button was able to connect to someone, and I can lock unlock through the app, maaaybe be OTA will get pushed through but at this point my doubts are high. Seems like I’ll have to wait for my service appointment and have it updated the old fashioned way to get things working again.

Yeah this exactly, I can’t even connect to wifi at home to see if the 2.9 update is available. Dealers my only option left so I just have to wait for that now. Sorry but what is TCAM anyway? Not familiar with it… I’ve seen it talked about a lot on here.

Volvo's Telematics and Connectivity Antenna Module

It handles the LTE (Internet)and Connectivity (On Call) aspects of your vehicle.

I don't know size of update, but you could try using your phone as a hotspot and updating that way or Try finding a place with a strong public wifi signal.

Aha, it’s the shark fin basically, got it. Thanks. Yeah I’ve tried the hotspot too, and my home wifi has a very strong network, the car wifi just isn’t working, it can’t find any networks at all.

Sounds like module might be faulty. I know the feeling. I hated my local (it lost eventually lost Volvo Franchise) and drove 90 miles each way to next closest dealer for everything.

The defroster trick has only worked for me when I hold it down for at least 30 to 45 seconds.
