Chris -
I would start with pulling the 6 & 23 fuses and if that doesnt work for the ECU reset check the other individual fuses. If still no luck I would look around for any loose wires, connectors or fittings...

After that it would be the ole code reader & trip to the dealer...

good luck http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

The engine temperature coolant sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. It's telling the ECU that the engine is overheating, and thus the ECU sets the vehicle into limp-home mode.

Resetting the ECU may help . . . but then you're running the risk of potentially erasing a stored DTC that is there for a reason. If you erase it, the vehicle may run properly, but on a faulty signal from the ECT. In other words, there is the potential that the engine could be overheating, but the ECT is telling the ECU it's not . . . and that would obviously be a VERY bad thing.

Sometimes DIY isn't the best way to go. Take it to your retailer and let them fault trace it.

This post from me will be no help what so ever, it's just to make you laugh.

Maybe it's the mirror covers, the reflection from the sun is getting into your eyes, keeping you from seeing the idiot lights.

Installing the covers, you didn't pinch a wire, causing a fuse to blow, did you?

I had my IAT sensor go screwy on me once. No check engine light or error messages in the DIM. All that happened was that the car just lost boost, accelerated very slowly and the radiator fan was running at full blast.

As I had may Auterra with me, it showed that a code was thrown. Basically, the IAT gave a max temp of 105degC and the ecu just cut back on everything to try to cool the car down. Once I had cleared the code, everything was back to normal. The code never re-appeared again... I chalked it down as one of those one-offs...

The fact that there is no idiot lights at all points to something other than a sensor. I'd look at the CEM connectors.

Although this is typically true (when a sensor fails, a warning light comes on), I've personally seen this situation occur on R's several times. So from previous experience with situations like what was described in the initial post, my educated guess is that it's the ECT sensor.

Also, it's entirely possible that a code has been stored, but it isn't something that the vehicle passes on to the consumer as a warning light. I see DTC's stored all the time that aren't visible to the consumer.

Anyways . . . we'll find out what the problem is soon enough.

My other post was a joke but this is not.
The outside air temp sensor is in the mirror and the input from this is used for engine managment. Did a wire to that sensor get unhooked in your mirror cover install?

haha -- you know there were two small wires attached to the back of the mirror glass.

I spoke with my service advisor and he said the same thing. Mentioned they've had a few go bad.

Since the windows were tinted and I can't put them down for a couple days AND a certain someone at the house insisted I attend to her to do list this weekend, I dropped it off at the dealership for them to look at Monday.
