Nik's Silver 2000 V70R

Just got a new ride! Picked up a 2000 V70R in Silver today, it was just posted yesterday on craigslist and I found it by chance through a facebook link. Seller had like 10 calls from people who wanted to see the car while we were test driving it alone, it was gonna be gone fast lol. Looks like I finally found the one after looking all summer for a P80R... every one I've seen was in too rough of shape for the price, and there were like 5 of them.
Picked it up for $4100, this car in its current shape is probably worth 6k or more lmao... it was a steal (knock on wood).
Funny thing is that last December in Miami, I test drove another 2000 V70R in silver, with 54k miles, but it was in too rough of shape for me to go after it.... looks like I got a second chance haha.

87k miles, one owner (almost), garage kept and like a new car inside... no rattles at all or headliner issues, seats have almost no wear at all either. Paint is also great overall, just has some scratches around and worn seals as u would expect for a 19 year old car. It's like a dream come true, I cant believe my luck this time and how clean it is inside and out :D
Previous owner even put in LEDs or HIDs for the headlights! I'm excited to see the nighttime visibility improvement soon.

Just needs a few things... the car has vibration above 50 so the tires probably need rotating/balancing, one of the wheels or something starts to hum around 55 and up, and upon starting the car runs rough for a sec and smooths out, or stalls and needs a second start. There's also a creak at full steering lock, my 850R does the same and I'm assuming its just old suspension or something.

Any insight on the starting issue? I'm either thinking it's the electronic throttlebody module going bad or a MAF sensor acting up, but I'm not sure. I'll try to fix all the stuff this week, as well as some preventative maintenance like a timing belt swap and trans flush + oil change. Took it to a friend of the seller for a pre-purchase inspection, the dude was a mechanic at his own private shop and he said there were no leaks under the car and it passed just fine for the test drive.

I'm really happy with it so far, it's so much nicer than my worn out 850R sedan... speaking of, I gotta sell that one soon.
Gonna use this V70R as a daily commuter to my college campus, as well as a casual project with tasteful mods only. :p

Looking forward to seeing this thread grow as progress is made... gonna start with some cosmetic mods first like an eggcrate grill with an R emblem, factory painted spoiler, clear headlights, and I'll throw in an IPD intake as well for more of that boosted 5-cylinder music.
Here's some pics of it after I bought it this afternoon and cleaned it up inside!

Seats are lovely and engine bay needs some cleaning. Great purchase. Take care of it!
Nice find! Satellites to boot.

Nice score!

Sounds like you need an etm and a wheel bearing.

You would also be wise to get a Vida/dice setup it will take all the guess work out of troubleshooting issues with the car and give you a vin specificparts catalogue to boot.

I also have a couple of really nice eggcrates on hand if you're interested. Send me a pm.

Stage zero on these me7 cars also means doing coils, a 05+ power steering reservoir upgrade, pcv banjo bolt upgrade and since it's awd I would test the viscous coupler and check the lash in the wangle gear just to be sure it's all good.

Very nice! I must say I am a little jealous of the deal you got. Good luck with it.

Looks like a clean one, nice find! I wish my 2000 had the 2-tone seats but beggars can't be choosers now that these cars are getting up there in years. Hope it works out well for you.
A recent 2000R I had had the same symptoms of difficult start and then running rough for short period of time then smoothing out. Determined it had a weeping head gasket that would let a small amount of water bleed into a cylinder when it shut off. Next time I would go to start it and it would misfire till it cleared the water out. Would only do this when the car sat overnight or longer. Also the long cranking starts could be the check valve on the fuel line which plagues quite a few of the 99-00 AWD cars.
Congrats on the new R! Looks like you got a heck of a deal on a really clean wagon!
Glad to see this went to a good home! I saw it in the parking lot of the NVA Public Auto Auction a few weeks ago and was curious as to what happened to it. It never showed up on their site and I guess I missed it on Craigslist yesterday. Congrats!

Eww, hopefully OP doesn't have that going on and it's a simple fix. And even if the car needs a new HG, he said he was going to do the timing belt so it could be done at the same time.

Those two tone alcantara leather seats looks to be in fantastic shape for their age. Good score for the price IMO.

Big thanks to everyone! I can't wait to give it a good refresh soon :)

Thanks dude!

I sent it the other day to a local trusted Sunoco to get the tires rotated and balanced, which included diagnosing the vibration and humming at highway speeds.
The Mechanic called back today and said that the tires were rotated, however the vibration was not the wheels off balance... it was instead the propshaft causing it, the rear section specifically.
Sounds legit to me since these propshafts tend to get worn out easily over time. Should I email colorado driveshafts for a rebuilt unit?
He said that a volvo unit would be 1400 so **** that lol.

I'll have to definitely look at that vida/dice system btw... where can I find one?

It's a bummer since I was planning to bring the car this weekend up to TJ's shop to get it thoroughly looked at but it looks I need a driveshaft rebuilt first, the current one is still in the car and I have it back home now.
Thank god I still have the 850R as a backup for the next few days.

Also the startup stalling/running rough has gone away since the day I bought it... I'll have to keep an eye on it. It starts up and runs just fine at the moment.

Yeah I plan to get the whole system redone next week... timing belt, tensioners, pulleys, and water pump.

Are these two tone seats rare? Everyone has been asking me if I want to trade with theirs on facebook groups lol.
Try Colorado driveshaft.
Keep the seats!

Huh... I wonder if the first owner passed away, and that's how it ended up there. It was apparently a one owner car for like 98% of its life according to carfax and what the seller told me.
It was garage kept in a wealthy part of VA near where I live.

Oh man, that sounds like a mess!
I don't think I have that issue and it hasn't been showing any problems with startups since I bought it, but it could be that check valve getting old. I'll have watch out to see if it comes back.
Just drop the driveshaft for the moment

It was in really good shape when I looked at it. I happened to be there looking for a parts car for my V70 GLT and noticed that gem. The guy said it had just come in last night and it wasn't ready for the auction. I couldn't grab the mileage at the time (dead battery) but due to how clean the interior and exterior were, I figured it was low. I didn't realize it was <90k low though  I was really interested at the time (~month ago) but I'm still holding out for an 06-07 70R and I was scared of any gremlins that may arise. Excited to see what you do with it

Do you know how I could safely lift the car to do this? My friends and I are sorta hesitant since we don't want to get killed lol

Damn, yep pretty much looks the same to me...
Unfortunately the car has no service records except a new alternator and tires... so I have to do quite a bit of preventative maintenance at the moment.
