I found this picture on Volvo's media website under the "All-New Volvo S80 Design" topic.

On this picture you can see a clay model S80 in the design studio in Gothenburg, and in the background a C70 model (which I think is based on the next generation S60/V70). And behing this C70, you can see drawings of some strange station wagon cars that look like the new C70's front face...

Do you thinks it's gonna be the next V70 ?

Re: Next generation V70 ? (nonocake)

Little picture, you can't see anything.
Volvo has been very hush hush about the new V70, no spy anything, so we'll all have to wait and see what comes out in the next several months.
Hard to top the current P2 design which is still a very pleasing to the eye classic and aging well.
I was thinking that today when I came on a Willow Green (rare, in itself) V70 with Euro racks and 17's, it looked very nice. It had the chrome bumper strips which accented this particular wagon very well. I thought how very nice this one looked.
However, with current Volvo thinking, design and management, they WILL screw the new one up, trust me on this one

Re: Next generation V70 ? (JRL)

all i will say Jim, is that my friends who work at the torslanda plant told us to get our v70 now, or at the latest an 07.
and we got a 2006 v70 2.5t in willow green pearl and it does look good to me. it is in port hueneme waiting for a ride up here right now. we drove it around goteborg for a couple days with our portable nav system who took a couple days off work. the v70 is still a volvo, but it will not take the new boys long to screw it up. i agree with you James.

actually I think the current generation V70's rear end still looks boxy, and i hope the next generation will look more sporty (like the V50)

Re: (McDonald)

Problem is, if you round off the rear hatch (a la MBZ) you lose A LOT of cargo space and the ability for large boxes to be loaded towards the rear of the wagon,
So, what do you want, something more "modern" that doesn't load nealy as well as the current wagon or a vehicle that is USEFULL which a wagon is supposed to be Try loading a (Dodge) Magnum with it's cool rear hatch as you would a Volvo, you can't, I tried

Re: (JRL)

if the new design is truely like the v50, which i do not disbelieve. that is why my friends, knowing me, told me to get one now. they made NO mention of the new car.
those that know don't talk, those that talk don't know; that is the way it is supposed to be. but there is always someone who wants to be a big shot
even though they should just keep promises and be quiet.
edit; jim i totally agree with you. the utility will be greatly compromised. i think a lot of my neighbors would be looking elsewhere. i know i would not buy a car that is effectively an old "hatchback" design.

Re: (r_driver04)

JRL's post is right on target, if the wagon is any less boxy then the current ones you are going to lose practical space
