I just think if Swedespeed guys want to have another get together event. Instead of just standing around and talk, how about a nice cook out in some nice park and go for a drive afterward on the twisty country roads.
This is what Barry brought up today on BB: http://brickboard.com/AWD/READER/?f=10074396;fi=i

Hmmm, I am okay for the 30th of June, but it sounded like someone wasn't on Brickboard. We could do it the following weekend as well (July 6-7) but technically that's a holiday weekend so people may be traveling. Something to think about though. How about the 29th?
We could use a good venue, and I've done something similar at Black Hill Regional Park just north of Germantown, MD on I270. We could try for Great Falls as well, but it gets really busy on the weekends.

I can pretty much do any weekend with notice. To add a twist to the plans, how about we GTG at Sugarloaf Mountain? It’s a great park with areas for cooking, parking, and then easy access to some great country roads for a nice drive. The park is located about 15 miles north of Gaithersburg and 18 miles south of Frederick. It is accessible from 270 and close to I-70. For those who like to hike, there are 6 trails ranging from a 1/4-mile up-hill climb to the summit to a 7-mile “around the world tour”. You can even bring mtn. bikes and such. I figure that we could eat and meet then burn off some of the BBQ by hitting one of the trails for a while. Then once everyone has their jollies we can pile into all of the cars and do a nice long country road drive thing. (Hmmm, sounds like my normal weekend routine. ) Anyhow, its just an idea but if interested, I know some great roads that are fun and twisty yet safe for the guys with 17" wheels. Anyhow, I will offer to lead the way if everyone is game...(assuming that I have my car back from the body shop and road worthy.) Well, catch you all on the flip side…
Prospero
I've never been to Sugarloaf. I'd be up for that, and bringing along the MTB, as that's always a ton of fun.
We also brought a red rubber ball to the VW owners picnic we had at black hill last year. Why you ask? One word. Kickball. It's fun, everyone can do it and there arent' any athletic coaches or know-it-alls with phds in phys ed around the country trying to ban it.

I'd be up for a meeting anywhere anytime.

quote:
Originally posted by The_one_n_only:
I just think if Swedespeed guys want to have another get together event. How about Sunday, July 15 at Summit Point Raceway? We could meet and watch the SCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Sports Cars race.
For more information on Summit Point see:
http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/

George, yeah..seems like that day would not work for Barry. 29th is a Friday, though..
Matt, so..do you care to outline some plan for this?
Warren, you are more than welcome to join us. More people, more fun~!
SCFrost, sounds like a plan..but I was thinking about a more 'relax' kinda event. But, it def. something for many of us to show up at the track...that'll be some scene.
I thought June 30th would be one of the best dates to do this since like George mentioned, people might have already planned to take a short vacation for the July 4th weekend.
Any more ideas, guys?

I won't mind taking the responsibility of coordinating the GTG at Sugarloaf on the 30th. I will not be able to control the weather but the rest should be easy. I'm going to sleep on it and post some details in the AM. Right now my mind is owned by a wonderful young lady in which I must see before I can think about anything else. So I guess sometime in the AM I should post some ideas and nail down some plans. In the mean time, how many people will be joining in on the GTG? And how many want to cook at the park (i.e. bring your own meat and stuff and the fire will be provided?) I will gladly help cook and do some of that but everybody is responsible for themselves in all. Same goes for clean up and so on. I will be doing steak and potatoes with salad and bottled water; I will bring charcoal and lighter stuff and some utensils, but bring it if you think you'll need it. Well, more thoughts of the girl are filling my mind so I have to go. Catch you all in the morning.
Prospero
Geez Matt, between chicks and cars, what else do you think about?
BTW, that's the best way to handle it. Bring some for yourself, and some for others, but make sure you bring enough for yourself. That's the way we did it last time, and it worked well.
Also, if there are not fixed grills up there, we'll need to know so we can put a call out to all Hibachis.
How about we focus on the 30th, so pass that along to Brickboard, Volvospy or anywhere else you may care to post. Matt, if you can put directions up, that'd be great. I think I have a general idea of where it is, so would it be fair to say it's about 25 min north of the DC Beltway off of I-270?

George,
If I had the same luck with chicks as I did with cars then life would be good! After all, I'm still recovering from a 5-car pile up. If only I were recovering from a 5-woman pile up, that would be decent! Seriously though, there are fixed grills there. Just bring bottled water and such for cleanup, as there are no "real" facilities that I know of. In regards to directions...piece of cake. 270 north to route 109. (I will post the exit number after I write it down from the trip home tonight) At the exit, there are signs pointing to Sugarloaf Mtn. Follow the country road for some 5 miles and then make a right at the Comus Inn (Signs for sugarloaf point that way as well.) Follow road for 3 or so miles and make right into Sugarloaf Mtn. Park. Follow the roadway (slowly please) to the "East View" parking lot. Park, get out and enjoy the Mtn air! Bring whatever you think you might need for doing your meal and what not. There will be a few options to explore once there in regards to eating at "Devil's Kitchen" or eating on the summit. Well, I have to run. I will check back later on today to give more details. Also, guys, bring your women if interested. I'm going to try to bring my friend if she wants to come along. (And no Kai, she won't be there for cleaning and cooking either! ) Well gents...c-ya later on.
Prospero
You can count me out. Saturdays are not good for me. What can I say, when the client says they need you.
If it gets moved to the 31st, I will cancel my date with my car. I was planning on installing my new springs, struts, and strut brace that day.

Alright, it seems like the 31st would be more ideal for most of the people. Regarding the cook out...it sure would be more fun to do that, but at the same time more work. If that is a bit too troublesome, we can always just have a lunch at some place around there or something.
Damn, there's always one in the crowd! Guess when you're right you're right. July 1st looks like the day to me. George, is this good for you? I would like to have everybody possible join in on the fun! Also, as far as the cookout goes, the whole thing is easy to me. BUT one can always bring pre-cooked things. There is only one place to eat in the area and it is nice and expensive! The Comus inn is right there at the foot of the mtn. but you will spend $20.00 for Sunday brunch. Good food, but a bit much for my taste. Now that we have all figured out a day for the most part, how about a meet time? The park closes at 5:30ish according to the sign but it is light till past 9pm so they may let us stay past. For me it is best to GTG around noon or so. There will be a decent population there at the mtn if it is a sweet day, but it should not be an issue if we don't go beyond 20 or so cars in our group. If we have more we can goto the West parking area. By this time 6/20/01 I would like to secure a date and time so we can post everywhere possible.
Prospero

I kept looking at 30, and I thought I was on the wrong month!
I'll bring the pictures I took at Carlisle with me. I also picked up 10 issues of a Swedish Volvo magizine (Ratten), so I figured I'd bring those along too (can't read them, but lots of cool pictures, including a few racing shots).
It sounds like July 1st is good for most people, so you can probably post to Brickboard, Turbobricks, volvotuning.com, volvospy, volvospeed, and anywhere else you can think of.

The date is the 1st of July. Noon is the time and fun is the plan. Anyone care to post to the other sites? I am tied up and don;t have time to really follow up with them. I am working on the drive route and was testing the roads last night. Oh man, can you say fun! I'll be back in a while with more info. I just wanted to touch base and give the official word on date and time for the GTG.
Prospero
