Top view, it's a near perfect match on length, width, hood, A/B/C/D pillar between patent drawing (white) and XC90 (black).

Side view is completly off. Height is somewhere between XC90 and V90CC, but with a XC60 wheelbase. Hence the enourmous overhangs.

Interestingly, the C40 patent drawings also show huge overhangs, which aren't present on the production version.

On 07/13/22 Volvo applied for the following designations to be trademarked with the EUIPO

EX30, EX40, EX60, EX90

ES40, ES60, ES90

EV40, EV60, EV90

EC40

EXC40, EXC60, EXC90

So, in other words, Kris Rifa is, at best, just guessing.

On the other hand, I believe what TurboJonte said is very likely what's going to happen. That what we see in the patent drawings is the big refresh of the XC90II, based on the (updated) SPA1 plattform, built in Torslanda, with (updated) PHEV drivetrains, to be built until 2030, as announced previously by Volvo.

I got into a discussion about the SPA2 and SEA platform on the Polestar forum.
What do you guys think? Is SEA-1, what we call SPA2? I'm not convinced.
No, it's almost certainly not the same.

SEA was developed by Geely from ground up, as a pure BEV platform. Intended for small to mid-sized cars.

SPA2 is a Volvo development, an evolution of SPA1, which allows it to be used as a BEV platform. Intended for large luxurious cars.

But I guess we'll know for sure when the Polestar 3 is revealed and more information/graphics of the platform are available.

Disappointing that Lynk receives the latest goodies before Volvo.

An example is the XC40 PHEV vs the Lynk&co 01 on the european market.
The Lynk has been available for 2 MY with a 17,6 kwh battery pack whereas the XC40 is still offered with the 10,7kwh with a much shorter electric range.

An other one:
The Lynk 09 received first the latest T8 455 hp with the stronger ERAD followed 6 months after by Volvo.
You see all this Volvo Tech/Design/Engineering in the 09 and you get the feeling that all the extra stuff comes directly from Volvos as well.

The current XC90 must have an enviable profit margin.

Usually you have the new stuff starting in premium models/brands and then trickle down.

Could be because strategies were overthrown in the last 2 years. We'll probably never know for certain.

Some of the interior/exterior colors were shown in yesterdays teaser.

"Taking things beyond materials, the Volvo EX90 also offers you the opportunity to personalise your car’s atmosphere and appearance by choosing between seven different “rooms” that synchronise the interior deco and upholstery with the exterior colours.

Each room, specially created by our designers, provides a different character and offers a distinct ambiance to suit your tastes. And each is inspired by aspects of the Scandinavian lifestyle and its symbiotic relationship with the beautiful nature that surrounds us here in the North."

I don't think that's a smart idea to spread it out like that at least for the US markets. You just started gaining market share, concentrate on what works, and maybe a niche vehicle to just experiment. Too much too fast and spread resources too thin.

This is the October global numbers YTD (https://www.media.volvocars.com/global/en-us/corporate/sales-volumes)

Just based on that, EV for the full size (90) ,mid size (60) and compact SUVs (40). and then the Sedans (90 and 60) as there is still a demand for sedans globally. And then experiment with niche lifestyle utility vehicle like the Concept Recharge. It's unfortunate that the V90, V90CC and V60CC doesn't have the numbers but curiously the V60 is decent (Based on Oct 2022 ytd). I wonder where the sales numbers for the US market is. I cant find it for now.
Wow... At this rate, Volvo will have sold as many V70 in 2015 in Sweden alone as they are selling V60 + V60CC globally.

I wonder how they want to get to 50% BEV by 2025, or even 2026, if the EX60 isn't in full production by January 2025 (or 26).

Volvo will sell around 50k BEVs this year. XC40 & C40 might get you to 100K in 3 years. EX30 might get another 30k. EX90 another 100k (likely less).

50% of 800k would mean 400k BEVs sold. I believe it was stated last year, that the goal for mid-decade is 1.2 million. 600k BEVs.

I don't have insight into how the design process at a car company works, but I would imagine Mussoni at Polestar, and Ingenlath before at Volvo, had more managing work, rather than actually designing the cars themselves. They might choose/select from different design proposals, push in a certain direction, give guidance. But most of their time will likely be spent on managerial tasks.

For instance, if memory serves, the main exterior design work for the current S/V60 was done by T. Jon Mayer. Nahum Escobedo did the Polestar Precept.

I wouldn't read too much into the fact that Mussoni and Ingenlath are no longer directly involved with Volvo's design process.

How well did the XC70 sell in the US compared to the S90 and S60 now? If there's a market for sedans, there might be one for a cross-over station wagon.

In my personal opinion, the XC70 7-seater did a lot of things right and still looks good. Take that idea to 2024 and that would be a car I would buy.

I like the idea of a Volvo family mover, but an all-terrain, all-purpose car with class leading cargo space would be nice. I still hope the V546 will be kind of that.

Another good find. Seems that article was sourced from Reuters, not AN itself. So maybe a bit off.

Interesting is reference to six EV's, vs. five briefed to dealers a year ago in Miami. 3 SUVs, now 2 sedans (?), and MPV? But I think the plan might actually be EX90, EX60, EX30, V546/EX70, ES90, MPV (not in that order). Maybe a 2nd sedan follows later. Could also be conflating different plans for different markets, not really expecting sedans or MPV in NA before 2030.
That sounds more likely. One sedan (ES90) and one stationwagon/CrossCountry (EV/EX70). That proposed halo car could be a Volvo version of the Polestar 5, which would be the second sedan in the lineup.

Interestingly, my dealer told me that Volvo currently only has 2 completed EX90. One is in Göteborg and the other is touring the world.
