If all goes as expected the XC90 Recharges coming off the manufacturing line in Gothenburg, Sweden during late November of this year should be equipped with he 18kwh battery pack. One would expect that within two months any of those cars headed for the U.S. could begin arriving at port. There could be some additional delay either in port or at a storage site until U.S. certifications for the new powertrain have been obtained and the cars can then be released to dealer lots. Late February or into March would thus be likely for the 18kwh battery pack in the USA.
Sweet!
21 miles on the old pack just can't keep up with the competition. BMW x5 phev is up to 30.

Interesting, they think that the xc90 will get a normal successor (probably also called the xc90) with an ICE engine and a hybrid and normal SUV shape, while the Volvo Embla will be flagship and will not be the successor to the Volvo Xc90 but it will be like some kind of xc100 (project V616 maybe) that was written about a year ago.
if production in 2023, then they will certainly debut sometime this year.

Looks like Recharge Concept + rearview mirrors, door handles, different wheels and some production-spec framing & cosmetic differences. I think I'd be surprised if the greenhouse tapers that dramatically towards 3rd row, looks just as bleak for occupants as current RX-L (TX coming to replace, could be minivan-sized?).

Seems MT doesn't much care for 'Embla' either: "Embla is certainly a name, but maybe not the first one we'd choose."

FWIW, here's a few notes from Q4 Results thread:
  • CEO and CFO restated late this year to reveal “flagship” EV (XC90 EV counterpart on SPA2), and smaller XC20-ish EV comes next (PMA). Repeatedly declined to address any further new products after that. (Perhaps a 'Megacasted' XC60-ish EV on GPA is what follows next?)
  • CEO indicated current SPAs will continue in production and be updated. Seems they‘re not going anywhere. (I suspect will continue as long as there's demand and/or EVs/EV infrastructure lags. XC90 and XC60 could persevere in NA through end-decade. Honestly, I don't know if many would notice if the V and S cars just fade away much sooner.)
Retuning to an earlier question but don't recall the answer, is SPA2 one-and-done for each brand? XC60 EV and P*5 get 'Megacasted' towards mid-decade?

I think the Lexus EV concept looks a bit better than the Volvo EV. Volvo looks too much like a lifted station wagon.

I'm really curious to see what upcoming XC90 refresh looks like, how it might shoot the gap between current and EX90, and whether both PHEV and non-PHEV get the same treatment. Or perhaps PHEV moves closer to EX90, with milder changes for non-PHEV. Very little speculation online re: what's coming. Lynk 09 might offer some clues.

I'm guessing reveal happens later in winter, perhaps following another dealer meeting in Miami ~Feb? Can't find any such speculation re: meeting or reveal timing.
My guess, one feature they need and should add - a 6.6kw on board charger v. the paltry 3.3kw that takes almost 6 hrs to charge a ER T8. Even a RAV4 prime has a optional 6.6kw. Volvo is falling way behind on that.
