Hey hey...just looking for tips and pointers.
I know, I will get enough attention for bringing a Volvo, and being a girl on the track, last thing I want is to look "clueless".
Got my 2006 S40 T5 AWD less than a month and decided to take it to the mosport track to better 'connect' with the car. Car is stock but has Sports package. Wanted to get Evolve springs but they never got back to me. Honestly, I've never seen a volvo on the track here in Ontario... plus, ppl are not very familiar with volvos. BMW, Porsche and Japanese imports host a series of events and take over the tracks here. My dad had a volvo 740 for over a decade and I became loyal to this brand. As a result, I went with the S40 over the 330ci.
Besides information from the web and forums like this, I have very little resources. I'm taking this car to the track this Saturday and the schedule goes something like this:
"The class will be divided in the morning with skid pad and track - so you should get about an hour of track time and an hour on the skid pad in the morning. At lunch, we will be giving the instructors track time and time to take passengers for rides. If there is room, you can lap on your own at lunch. (we are limtied to 10 cars on track at a time) The afternoon will be basically open lapping - with instructors available to come for rides and help you. Should expect at least 3-4 hours of lapping in the afternoon. You should be tired of driving by the end of the day if you don't run out of brakes or tires."
Q1. tire pressure set to??
Q2. the DSTC botton by the shifter, I should turn this OFF during skid pad exercise right?
Q3. what kind of engine oil to bring?
Q4. my first turbo car...anything I should be aware of?
Thanks guys!!
Re: Newbie taking S40 to track.... (Volvo Fly Girl)

Well with the 18" Set-Up and Sport , You should be - Pretty Good .
I'd Run 38 in the frt & 28 in the back for the Skip Pad , If You run a Small Road Course with some good straights then 32-34 in the back .
( Higher Speed ).
This does Depend on Kind of Tires , Clockwise or Counter Clockwise .
Most of It is to just have - Fun.
Oh, and the active safety System , It might Work Better Dstc On .
Depends on How Smooth You can Be .
I have had the DSTC Kick In and Pull the Front Back-In - On a High Speed Turn , in which I Hit Gravel with the Out Side holding Tire , it Actually
Skidded for a Split Sec. & at the Very Same Time - Locked Down the Inside
Wheel ( Which put Weight ) on the Nose and Pull to go around the Corner .
All in .010-.015 of a sec. ( Which I traveled about 12-15 ft. )

Actually Got a Little Chirp Out of the Tire .
If Your Going all Out and On the Bleeding Edge , with the Throttle
You can Dance the Tail Out - and - About - Which Gets You Around those Tight Curves .
