I should post this with an earlier post but I am afraid my questions would be overlooked.

Q#1. - I am looking at a 97 850 t-5 wagon - green. This one has about 50K miles from a dealer ($19,000). Is this a good deal?

Q#2. - What are the differences between the the 850 t-5 and the 850 R? From what I've read, i know the hp and torque figures are different. Besides the wheels, stiffer ride and the ECU, are there any differences in the transmission, cams, etc?

Q#3. - Can I get the performance of an upgraded 850 t-5 to be the same as that of an upgraded 850 R?

I really want a 850 R (sedan or wagon) b/c of the interior and the outside looks but am having a hard time finding one at a dealer. I prefer a dealer b/c i have a trade-in and don't want to be bothered selling my car on my own. Thanks in advance. Any info is appreciated.

I think the R motor and the T-5 motor are the same, but the ECU is different. Later cars have other upgrades, but the 850Rs and the 850 T-5s are purely ECU. If you did a chip upgrade like IPD's, I think the performance figures in the end are the same.

The other differences that I know of for the R are the wheels, tires, suspension, unique faux wood trim, alcantara interior, rear deck spoiler (sedan), aluminum door sills, front chin spoiler and I think that is about all.

The T-5 sounds nice. That's low mileage for its age.

Thank you Evolvo and 850Rwagon your quick response. I haven't been looking too long, a feww weeks maybe, but I have searched the nearest volvo dealers on Long Island, NY for one with no luck. I did find some V70 R's but I like the 850's much better. If you see any R's in your area, please let me know. Depending on how far it is I might be will to travel a little. Thanks again!
