hi all..... i just got my first 850 turbo auto tranny. its a 1994. i got a pretty good deal on it and overall inside and out its in pretty good condition. the car has about 180k on it and it runs great. the problems i have found are:<p>-the shifter wont go out of park unless i use the override button<br>-the blower motor the previous owner had to wire up some kind of relay so<br> it comes on and off with the key. i guess the blower control went bad. <br>- * biggest issue * i noticed when i mash on it the turbo guage just barely goes over into the boost side. is the turbo bad ? is this normal ? what controls the boost levels ? the turbo doesnt make any noise or anything... <br>- how difficult to change the timing belt ? previous owner said it needs to be changed <br>- a bracket that goes into the door when you open it seems like its broke or something. the door basically just swings open. the pass. side is making like a "popping" sound when i open the door. <p>well... other than that thats all ive found.... any help with these problems i would truly appreciate. is there a service manual that can be downloaded ? i had a merkur turbo and conquest tsi and there were manuals you could download. thanks again for anyones help <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/smile.gif" BORDER="0">

Shifter button over-ride- you need a new solenoid or select micro switch under the shifter- <br>Part #9466027 here: <A HREF="http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo850other.htm" TARGET="_blank">http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo850other.htm</A><br>Bad turbo boost- check your vacuum and turbo hoses, especially the one near the throttle body. Timing belt isn't hard to do but takes some tools and patience. It should be done every 70K miles. If it needs it now, it might not have been done at the required 140K miles. In this case you should not delay. A broken timing belt = bent rods and destroyed engine. With timing belt at these miles you should do the tensioner, rollers and water pump w/gasket as well. As far as the door catches, they're a pece of cake to change. Unless you have a broken stud that you have to get to you don't even have to take the door panel off. I got mine for $20 on ebay new.<br>Go to Volvospeed garage for instructions on the tbelt and the door stops. Not too bad.

phils94850...........<p><br>Glad you found the experts <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/wink.gif" BORDER="0"> You are in good hands....these guys will help you make sure you are doing things right!<br>BTW....you have a typical 850 <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/rolleyes.gif" BORDER="0"> who's previous owner fell "out of love" <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emlove.gif" BORDER="0"> with the car..........It happens occasionally......Don't worry..just<br>keep the belts/hose/oil/filters changed regularly and you will get at least another 100k miles out of your "new" <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/wink.gif" BORDER="0"> 850!
