OK I am looking at a new 2006 S60R with the manual transmission. It has the following options: Climate package, premium package, Sirius Radio, 18 Pegasus wheels, Aero Kit. MSRP is almost $47K and they are selling it to me way below that. It is way below invoice even. The car is Electric Silver with the blue/black interior.
The car was used by Volvo in Car shows so perhaps thousands have sat and fiddled with the car. The car has only 37 miles on it but does show some wear on the interior particularly the drivers seat. The dealership has ordered a new seat cover for it.
Would you buy it? Lets say the price is in the low to mid 30's.
So what are typical problem areas?
I did! Mostly I am looking to see if someone would buy a car used in an auto show.

If you're getting a good deal on it (which based on your attitude it sounds like you are), and they're fixing the signs of wear, then heck yeah get it! Just look over it with a fine-toothed comb PRIOR to signing any paperwork. If you see anything you want fixed, mention it.

That is a great deal, IMO. Lower 30's, not mid 30's.

You should see the cars that come out of the NY Auto Show. I would ask for BOTH front seat covers to be replaced too.
Also, does anyone know if the clutch or tranny could be hurt by being subjected to tens of thousands of "garage shifts" by uncaring hands while the car is stationary and off? I don't know whether he should be worried about that or not, but I don't have the technological understanding to know if it would or not.

Re: Newbie!!! Looking at new S60R with Manual Transmission Need Advice (Gonbad)

Is that the one from Superior Volvo? Somebody posted a link to the ebay auction the other day. When I looked at the pictures, I noticed the driver side seat wear. May also want to check the passenger side as well if it was a show car. Another poster was looking at the Sonic '06 that is on ebay as well and they weren't willing to budge below the buy it now price. When I looked the buy it now on this one is $38 so you probably won't be able to get it for low 30's. Good luck.

I'm not exactly sure what effect 10,000 people each exercising his or her left and sometimes right leg 10 times on the clutch pedal will have on the slave cylinder, or slamming the transmission into gear with the car stationary will have on the synchro mesh. Call me paranoid, but if there's a free lunch in this life I have yet to find it.
I'd certainly ask for a new battery, too.

I am not bothered by this. Yes it is the one at Superior and no I am not anywhere near the buy it now price on my lease.

Re: Newbie!!! Looking at new S60R with Manual Transmission Need Advice (MagoonR)

Well I found out I can x-plan the car too. So that is even more off. Anyways I am going to lease this car as long as they will replace the leather on the seat bolsters both driver and passenger side. One other question on the lease terms to clarify. If all is done to my satisfaction I am going to get it.

I bought it. They are going to replace the worn seat leather. I have a discount plan with Ford through my work. That and the incentives from Volvo put actual cost well below the advertised Buy It Now price on E-bay.

(like maybe 33k, 37 out-the-door)
remember, that's 37 miles of irregular driving by various people. As far as I'm concerned this car has lost its virginity and will show its wear sooner than you think.

I mostly see these as miles on and off a transporter and in and out of convention centers. I doubt people were trying to doing donuts in it. Kind of hard to do in a AWD car.
I will post up the details once I get the final paper work. However the negotiated price for the lease is a lot closer to $30K than $33K. The money factor was .00255 which works out to 6.1%. Also with the x-plan I don't pay any fees other than TT&L. The residual on Volvo's suck but with the low Cap Price the lease is pretty cheap. My wife's Acura MDX on a 4 year lease has a residual of 55% w/ 12K miles a year. The Volvo is 35%.

Would you expect a high residual with a $10K lease incentive? Take your pick....higher price/higher residual or lower price/lower residual. On the net, not much difference depending on lease rate but the low residual makes for a more attractive buyout if you like the car.
Good luck.

They have rcvd 3 out of the four pieces needed to replace the leather. As long as they get that done this next week I will be picking it up Saturday 09/09/2006.

That seems like a lot wear on the seat for a car show and 37 miles. Honestly, do people in the midwest wear sandpaper on their jeans?

Broken turn signal levers. Hell, last year I sat in the then new 3 series Bimmer and the ENTIRE PASSENGER SEAT was broken. Rocked back and forth , spun off the track, etc.
They take anything remotely liftable out of the car before the show....airbag covers, shift levers, etc.
