I've been lurking since December or so, and I finally decided to register for a username and possibly start contributing to the community.
A brief introduction. . .
I recently moved to Chattanooga, TN from the FL panhandle. I have owned the same 1987 BMW 528e 5-speed for the past 5 1/2 years. I've put 60,000 miles on it during my ownership and will be turning over on 1/4 million miles by this summer. This is my fourth '82 - '88 5 Series (E28 body style) BMW. I have always performed all of the maintenance and repairs on my vehicles and suppose any out-of-warranty work on any other vehicle I eventually buy will be the same. I was a very active member of the online BMW E28 community for about 8 years until my life got a little more, uh, complicated when I became a married man last year.
My wife and I are still getting settled in Chattanooga, but once things are going well, I will be in the market for a P2 VR. My guess is that I'll be looking for a Magic / Nordkap MT with less than 50k miles -- one of which someone recently posted about at a dealership in KY and another of which is currently for sale on Phoenix's Craigslist -- but that probably won't be until later on this year (possibly the summer). I was drawn to the V70R after searching for a used -- I will most likely never buy a new vehicle as long as I live -- AWD wagon with an available manual transmission that would be fun to drive at the same time. The VR fits the bill! /Intro
At any rate, that's enough about me. I also have a website dedicated to my vehicles: http://www.oo00oo.com. I was thinking about uploading a spreadsheet that I've created to the website. I have compiled a list of all '04 - '07 V70Rs that have been posted for sale on Autotrader.com and Craigslist since January. The spreadsheet includes the VIN, year, color combo, transmission, reported mileage, asking price, and location. If I see a price change, I log it on the spreadsheet. Each month is separated onto its own worksheet on this spreadsheet. This way, I'm able to track asking prices of these vehicles to see about how long they take to sell (or at least until the seller takes it off of Autotrader / Craigslist).
For example, the Passion / Gobi VR in Dulles, VA that [email protected] posted about recently was the same one that JRL posted about that recently sold at auction, right? I'm not sure what the original asking price was before it went to auction since I only started the spreadsheet in January, but I know that they were asking 21986 til about the 2nd week of January, 20867 til about the first week of February, and 18986 right before it went to auction and sold for 17100, according to JRL. This data will allow us to be more informed buyers when we are shopping for a V70R.
I apologize that I haven't made a spreadsheet for the S60R, but I will not be in the market for one of those.
I'll go ahead and upload the spreadsheet -- an Excel file -- to my site, and if anyone is interested, I'll go ahead and post the link for download.
There's my introduction. I apologize if I've posted my introduction in the wrong forum, but I figured you R owners would like to see the fruits of my labor.
