Greetings from NC, new member here.
I seem to bounce between BMW and Volvo every few years or so.
Previous Volvo was a 1998 V70T-5 which was a great car for our family consisting of an infant and a Jack Russell puppy. We have expanded to two toddlers - Currently driving a '00 BWM 540i (manual six speed) which I love dearly. In a perfect world I would probably choose a 540iT (manual six speed wagon) or an M5 Touring (manual) but alas neither are available on this side of the pond. I am one of those wierd people who like several things:
1- Space
2- Speed
3- Changing my own gears, thank you very much
My 5 series lease is up 3/15/3003 and I feel that BMW has nothing for me at this time, the new 5ers (new body style) are not being released until the Sept '03 Auto Show in Frankfurt with US shipments occuring within 90 days. I then see this upcoming Volvo on edmunds.com and am hooked - THIS is it! V70R, 300hp, MANUAL TRANNY, AWD = speed + space!
I immediately called my local dealer who said I was the first person to express and interest and he "put me 1st on the list". Anyone have update info, or links to reviews, or US arrival info? A feb/mar/april delivery would just be perfect!
Just for the bio file, my other interest is vintage BMW motorcycles as I finished a two year restoration a few months ago of a 1961 BMW R50S (1 of 1,634 produced) and have ridden a fun filled 1300 miles since total rebuild.
Best,
-Grey in NC

Welcome to Swedespeed. Your release date sounds about accurate from all I've heard. I'm sure Volvo will tell us more at Detroit in the first week of January.

ask your retailer to send you the 1 page spec sheet he has on the R. he got it in his launch kit (black box). it isn't much, but it has all of the necessary specs and features and a couple of good pictures. since you're #1, this shouldn't be a problem.
