New XC90 Owner with a few questions...

Hey guys,
Just purchased my first Volvo for the wife this past week and so far we love it. We took it to the beach (400+ mile trip) this past weekend and the ride could not have been better. We're coming from the VW/Audi group with my wifes last car being an A6 and my current car a VW GLI. The XC90 is an 06', 2.5T with 50K and I have a couple questions. Thanks in advance.

1. The knob cover on the center console for the blower setting is missing. I know I could search around junkyards and what not but is there and online place to source this knob cover? (see Pic below, knob below AC button)

2. All 4 of the door handles have a weird wear pattern where areas of the handle have been rubbed past the black coating. Is there a fix other than buying new handles? If not, where can I get new handles and how hard would the install be? (see pic below)

XC90

My Jetta

Wow, almost 60 views and not 1 comment? I can see this community will be a different experience than what I have with the VW/Audi group

06 with 50k miles = warranty. Go to the stealership.

This forum is very lightly trafficed, unless your post involves the transmission in the T6 models.
For parts, check with these guys:
http://www.trademotion.com/par...13784
I've used them in the past with a lot of success. The door handles might best be handled by a body shop, as it likely can be covered up. (I'd be leery of opening up the entire door just to replace the handle -- rattles are sure to be in your future that way).
Good luck with your new ride!

Welcome to the world of Volvos. I think you will be pleased with your Volvo. I am on my 4h, and have had great luck with all 4!
I have not experienced any wear on door handles on any of my Volvos. I wonder if your car got a bad batch.
The fan switch cover should be an easy and in-expensive fix.

Nice looking GLI. I Always loved the 2005 MY. There was a point when I considered trading my TSX in on one, but never made the move. The 05 MY was definitely the most aggressive looking from the exterior, I could just never get over the interior, which I thought to be cheaply made.
And good luck with the 90. Ours is also a new purchase, and we are loving it so far!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions guy. I knew there had to be life in here and lurking around these forums before purchasing the XC90 I noticed there was not a ton of traffic but I guess I expected a few more "Hey's" and "Enjoy the ride" after 60 people viewing the post.

Quote, originally posted by njb8199 »

06 with 50k miles = warranty. I came from AW and this is not as active as what I'm used to.
As for the door handle, I wouldn't even change them if they're not broken. I'll just get them color-keyed (painted) like the body color. Get the door guards and the side mirror to be painted at the same time. I think it'll cost less than replace the handles. IMHO.
Welcome!

I'll admit that I was one of the ones that read your thread and didn't comment; I didn't really have anything to add, so...
Having said that, "Hey!" Nice Jetta and that was a great suggestion to paint the door handles.
This forum doesn't really have a ton of traffic but I've always had my questions answered; it's a great group here! Welcome.
Enjoy your XC!

You are right - those ARE weird wear patterns on the handles! Some are in areas where you wouldn't even expect a hand/ring to be hitting. We had an '04 XC90 T6 for a couple years, and even with some quality time spent at 7,500+ feet in the Sierras in the winter it never developed that kind of marking. Please let us know what your dealership has to say about it being covered or not on the warranty.
And - welcome to the group! There is usually a fairly good size increase in traffic on this forum after each new model year's vehicles start hitting the owner's driveways. I've got a 2010 XC90 V8 being delivered to our dealer on Friday - can hardly wait!!!!!

Congratulations on your new purchase as well. I hope to get to the dealership sometime next week and will be sure to give an update on the response to the door handle wear.

I'm not sure that this car has ever seen snow. We did not buy the car new and the the car fax report shows all of it's history taking place in Florida.

Your door handles look just like mine (05 XC90 T6 Black 97K miles). But the wear pattern is only on the passenger side . The driver side handles are OK. Our vehicle has spent its entire life in Georgia....sun damage maybe? They feel pitted, like they are dirty, but the stuff does not rub off. Honestly I have not tried too much to fix them yet. My slipping/sliding transmission has priority.

I also come from AudiWorld, and bought our XC90 for my wife- I still love my A4. This is definitely a different world from AW- not nearly as much traffic, posts, nor DIYers. But its a good community, nice members, no flaming, and no teens w/ daddys car. And I've checked out other Volvo sites, and this is my favorite. Welcome!!
As for the vehicle- I love it too! Had ours a month, then drove to 1400mi round trip for vacation. Just fantastic. Found a cherry V8 model, so mine has painted door handles, but I'd guess that's sun damage. Its not wear. Dont waste money on new handles (if warranty wont cover). I would pull open the door panels and remove the handles, paint them with satin black spray paint, and reinstall. And there are many parts places online that specialize in Volvos, to source the fan knob, and even the handles if necessary.
http://www.eeuroparts.com
http://www.myswedishparts.com
http://www.voluparts.com
http://www.discountvoparts.com
Helluva cool pic of the GLI. No issues with mine regarding the handles (05 XC90 AWD V8). But the top of front lens covers are worn out!!!
