Hi i purchased my 2004 XC90 2.5T today. it's got 150k miles.

I have a few questions as i am a noob to the volvo world.

1. there is a clunking sound coming from the driver strut, I'm thinking it is the bushing on top. ? any ideas on a DIY for this?

2. Rear window doesn't stay up, im thinking the sliders on the window are broken?

3. most importantly, whats the best iPod / iPhone hook up for the volvo.
DIY, or info please.

Nice, and enjoy, i love mine. Just a few tips, for Volvo parts, you may also consider fcpeuro.com, tascaparts.com, etc.

1. Could be one of the following: sway bar endlink, tie rods, or ball joints. Take the wheel off and have a look. Parts aren't too expensive either. Check RockAuto for prices. FCPEuro also has parts but some of them are of questionable quality \ source.

2. Doesn't stay up, as in when you roll it up, the motor rolls it back down; or doesn't stay up as in the window fell off the track?

3. GROM appears to have the best interface. It's expensive, but I think is the best interface. You will lose access to the CD player though, since it works by emulating a CD. I have the "light" version which you can find sometimes on eBay. The full featured version has iPod/iPhone (wired), Android (wired), USB (MP3 + WMA), 3.5mm, and Bluetooth (Android + iPhone). It will do both A2DP Bluetooth streaming audio AND handsfree / headset profile for answering phone calls.

I do have an extra Volvo / Motorola branded handsfree kit if you want it. PM me for details. This is the optional package that Volvo sold. I don't like it, so I'm taking it out.

I got the noise resolved. it was the control arm bushings. all the noise is gone. Super tight ride. all i need now is to replace the outter tie rods, struts and shocks, and a rear subframe bushing.

but for now im pretty safe.

OK I also have the same model 2.5t 2006 and 160.000 km.
At first allow me to introduce you with most common problems with this model:
Front tires regularly rotate and this help to premature wearing (or buying a new set)
Change all engine supports including Transmission Torque Mount.
Ball joint L + R side.
Front Sway bar End Link L +R side.
Rear Sway Bar End Link L + R side.
Sub-frame O-ring (Addresses sub-frame knocking noise)
Update Polestar software for 2.5T
Key module for start engine. (common failure after few years)
Petrol hinge door. (common mistake)
6 CD changer failure (common mistake)
Rear wiper motor (common mistake) I just clean and lubricate my
AIS Air flow sensor (come dirty) You can easily clean it with special spray
Change sparks ONLY with T5 Turbo sparks original Volvo regularly.
Oil change at every 7500 km.

Good luck with the best Volvo engine ever. Welcome to club.

This is the common

Be sure to replace cam belt unless you KNOW that it has already been done. Frankly, I would be very skeptical ... and just go ahead and replace belt, tensioner, waterpump, etc. I'm about to do the same on my recently purchased T6.
