Hey Sweedspeeders -
I just took delivery of a XC today after trying to get a Passat 4-Mo wagon. NONE to be had in all of Texas
After being offended by one VW/Audi dealership and wasting my time at three other VW dealerships, I was treated very nicely and had a terrific purchasing experience at Volvo of Houston.
Anyway, I'm glad to be a part of your bb community. (I've been a member of vwvortex for a while and look forward to some good conversations here as well)
Cheers!

Hey man, welcome. Sorry to hear about the VW dealer experience. Sounds like you have a nice collection of cars though, and that XC should be a nice addition to the stable.
So you're moving to NJ? Is that the reason to move to an AWD car?

My husband is a native of NY but I'm a native Houstonian and I'm unfamiliar and a bit uncomfortable driving in icy or snowy conditions. Thought I'd give myself every advantage I could. Thanks for the nice words.

Welcome to Swedespeed! Those black XC's look awesome, I think that is my favorite color for them actually. So, you are moving away from Texas? That is funny, I just had a friend visit this weekend who is from Houston. He lives off of Jones Road, right next to the Willowbrook Mall actually. Well, it looks like we are losing another person from the South, to those Easterners!
-Drew

welcome to the Volvo family. Especially welcome to a woman, as we don't see to many on the auto boards, nice to get the female angle on things.
I hope you enjoy the car, and try also the volvo xc forum at www.V70XC.com. I am a plain V70 2.4T owner so I don't go there as often, but there are a lot of useful things there.
See you on the V70 new forum then,
Sam
You should fit right in . Everytime I go north into the NJ/NY/CT area, I see a ton of Volvos, especially XCs. It's the "in" car up there.
The Scirocco sounds like a nice car by the way. I hope that is making the move.

Thanks so much for making me feel welcome everyone!
The movers are coming tomorrow and I'm just taking a break from unpacking - yes, we actually have to unpack a lot of our stuff in order for the movers to pack the stuff so that it will be covered under their insurance. Go figure.
V70Sam - thanks for pointing me toward the XC site.
InDy - I know where you say your friend lives. I'm a bit south of him, though. My mother feels the same way about loosing me to the East.
George - That was one thing (actually) that I was a bit dreading was having a car that is so common. Must be pride talking here, but I like to be a bit out of the ordinary. Regarding the Scirocco, I don't have that anymore but have been unable to part with the identification. I SURE wish I had it as a project car now.
Thanks again everyone for the kind comments.

No problem, and sorry George for plugging another site, I didn't think you would mind.
Also, my sister just move to Saddle River, NJ and she really likes it. She said it took a while to adjust to the roads and freeway system as they seem old and complicated compared to the one's in the Scottsdale/Phoenix are, but the are some really nice places to go, and you're not far from NYC.

Welcome to the neighborhood. Two words for living up in Joyzee: EZ Pass. Also first snow you get, go over to a large parking lot i.e. Paramus Park Mall, and play with the car. See how it will react in braking, turning, acceleration and combination of the above.

No worries on the plug. I have no issues with plugs, even for sites where users like to thumb their noses at Swedespeed . V70XC is not one of those, and it's a really cool site. He and I have worked together on stuff before and Coastal is a member here as well. I should probably go sign up on his board.
I wouldn't worry about the commonality of hte car. When I say they are common, it's not like a Tahoe or anything, it's just more common than say, seeing another Volvo in TX (at least the parts I've been to).
That XC should make a nice cruiser to come cross country (well part way) with. Do you plan on driving or will you ship the car?
The expected buyer of our Project 854R is from TX and plans on driving it back to the Lone Star state from DC this Friday.

I'm rather new to this board myself so I feel like a flight attendant, welcoming you to a place I've just arrived at myself

But, what the heck, WELCOME!

quote:
Originally posted by GenXCer:
Yes. I live in NJ and just bought an XC70 and am loving it. The all wheel drive plus the winter weather gear, will help in NJ. I am waiting for the first snow, I think it is coming this week. Got rid of my VW PAsset, which was great, but everyone in the world is driving them. The XC70 is better the 4 motion and much better seats. Enjoy NJ
