Hello
I was chatting to a friend today who is an avid R series fan.
He is hugely disappointed that Volvo don't have a current R series product lineup and is also angry at the rumour that the C30R is cancelled.
He has therefore set up two online petitions where he can gather names (first name is just fine!), locations and peoples comments all in one place from amidst the Volvo forum communities. This is to prove the voice of the volvo community towards wanting the R series to return and the C30R to be launched!
Remember, you CAN make a difference.
Volvo analyses and responds to market requests/pressure! Lets create some requests and pressure!!!
Remember the C30 wouldnt exist at all if there wasnt the positive media and forum 'buzz' surrounding the launch of the SCC in 2001.
As fan of the Volvo brand or dealer personnel or as a potential customer of an R series, please sign up on the following petitions. These will be forwarded to Volvo HQ in the near future.
This is intended by my friend to poll the worldwide range of Volvo forums!
come on! sign up if you want to appeal for an R series across the range and also the C30R (recent rumours suggest it is cancelled).

The volume of signatures CAN make a difference!
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/volvoRseries/
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/C30R
Could the moderators make this a sticky thread please!

Re: New Volvo R series appeal and the C30R (Shimon)

Looking at Volvo's current events, C30R/ other R models is their least priority. There would be no demand for those cars.

Re: New Volvo R series appeal and the C30R (MagoonR)

you are right, that is where the profits are made. Slick cars bring people into dealerships and they leave with another, less slick car. It is called the halo effect and it works quite well when done correctly.
When Ford sent SVT on hiatus I got really down on Ford....had no interest in going to the dealership because there was no excitement, just mundane pedestrian models. Ford I think realized this was a mistake which is why they are bringing back the SHO and an SVT Raptor. Now whil the Raptor is completely impractical it will bring people to the showroom.

Plain and simple, Volvo needs PROFITABLE cars; not halo loss leaders that require big incentives to move.

you've found incentives on halo cars? wow where are you shopping, I need to go there!
I've never seen an incentive on a halo car....in fact they are usually listed in the fine print as exclusions.

These incentives grew substantially through the 2005-2007 remaining life and sometimes were as high as $10K.
There are many, many, many discussions on why the R was not "successful". These range from lack of marketing, poor sales knowledge, poor service support, loads of warranty items, etc, etc. In short, Volvo is not equipped to sell a "halo" car nor is the brand seriously considered as a "performance" vehicle. Some of the dealers on this board also agree that "bread and butter" is the only way that Volvo can be profitable. Throwing $$$ down the halo drain isn't.

Were the S60R's and V70R's 'halo' cars? They must not have been, as the lease incentive I received was awfully generous.

Re: (m3nt0s)

I like body kits, two tone paint jobs, and fancy off-color stitching.
...and cameos in movies that make me look like a pu$$y!

Volvo cant market itself in the states as anything else but a carmaker for soccer moms. Nobody wants a sporty Volvo.

They have the engines, and the cars. They need to get them compliant and into the USA. Example, a 4cyl S class with 300+ lbs of torque can get over 30mpg.

When Ford formed PAG they wanted hi-po models in every brand. So you had Jaguar Rs, Volvo Rs, even HSEs for Land Rover. Though not PAG, they extended concept for Mazda for Mazdaspeed.
So maybe the concept didn't get the buy in at Volvo, but it doesn't mean the concept doesn't work.

Even if it did, most dealer service departments are inept with handling anything close to an R. Trust me (and many others) on this one.
