It's called the Volvo Ocean Race Edition and has been designed to recreate the atmosphere of the world's greatest yacht race aboard your very own car. Available in both the V70 and Cross Country guise, the editions come with a host of unique features.
Externally, the cars boast Ocean Blue paintwork (Paint Code 458) and special Volvo Ocean Race emblems on the front doors, while the Cross Country version adds a silver body moulding and aluminum skid plates front and rear. Inside, all cars come with a set of Ocean Race luxury floormats to complete the nautical theme.
Volvo has said that the Volvo Ocean Race Edition models will be available in Spring 2002, though we have been told that production begins September of 2001, which points to an earlier release this fall. For the moment, only the Cross Country has been confirmed for the North American marketplace.
Pictures of both models available on main page.
[This message has been edited by [email protected] (edited 08-10-2001).]

That has GOT to be the most beautiful color of blue that I've ever seen. Does it come with a celestial nav system and VHF radio?
- Darell

Damn, I love those wheels on the V70 on the bottom. They go really well with car, and that color "Ocean Blue", looks great as well like Darell said. All it needs are the Bi-Xenons and DVD Nav to make it all the more sweeter, oh yeah and don't forget the depth finder option.
-Drew
[This message has been edited by InDy (edited 08-10-2001).]

darell: It does look a bit lower, but I think those 17 inch wheels would have something to do with the whole different look.
I love that color~!! I like this package~~ It's not the same blue color as the Nautic Blue, right? Man..if only they had this color on their other cars.....

I like the S60's blue, but I love this. Those are 17s, but I think the car has some sort of suspension package on it as well. Not sure. It's hot though. I hope Volvo breaks down and decides to bring it over, because as of right now, all we're getting is the XC and while I like it, I think I'd buy the V70.
For now I'll have to settle on trying to get a 245 and painting it that color.

It is interesting to see that the nautical theme is purely cosmetic. For what it might be worth, apart from the color (looks nice on the screen but I will wait to see it in the flesh, so to speak), it will be very easy to get the silver mouldings, floor mats, and rear aluminum skid plate from the dealer, in due course, for decorating the 2001 XC! The wheels are unchanged for the XC. I guess the dealer might also be able to supply the emblem as well, not that that would interest me. Now, if the alumimum theme was carried over to the interior panels, it would be neat to upgrade them from the dealer rather than importing them from the Swedish aftermarket sup[pliers like SAM. I am assuming that all these things will have to be available from the dealer to accommodate collision repair and interior trim problems for the 2002 models?

Ahhh.. very nice. I think the aluminium side rails are a great idea. I've already got two pretty big scrapes on my existing XC rails so upgrading to the aluminium ones would be a nice prospect.
And the possiblilty of being able to upgrade to aluminium interior accents excites me too. I've got the graphite accents now, and well, I saw the aluminium ones on the s60, and they look great!
That's is a very nice colour too.. is this a similar shade to the existing Nautic Blue already offered?
Great placement of the emblem as well... very unique!
And that V70.. ya figure those rims are photoshopped in? They don't look quite right to me.

I guess it is possible that those wheels are photoshopped, but that image is not all that great quality compared to the XC pics. I was limited to it, but I am guessing they are real.
As for alu trim on the V70, I know the S60 T-5 comes with Alu trim. I wonder if it is interchangeable. It would make cost sense for Volvo to make the trim the same dimensions so as to make more trim choices from market to market. Hmmmm.

Nope, I meant more like a nautical nav system. But of course boats are now all using GPS like the rest of us, so the joke didn't have wings....
-d
