Firstly i have to say i'm overwhelmed at the community here, a lot of enthusiasm from volvo owners.
I am coming from a japanese performance car background but have recently purchased a 2001 S60 T5.
As i was looking for something that had at least some power, comfortable, cheaper on fuel and cost effective to buy the S60 fitted the bill.

The example i purchased has a couple of issues. Firstly my headlights are not the same level as each other. I was wondering how to get them the same level ?

The second being a lot more annoying. I have an issue with my DSTC system where it will randomly trip off and say "DSTSC requires service". This may occur the moment i turn on the car or 5 minutes after i start driving or 40 minutes into a drive. It has been checked by two separate workshops and the computer does not log a error but it definitely turns off the DSTC when it happens. The DSTC works fine when this error message does not turn up.

I've been reading around and from my understanding it seems a problem with the PCB board with the DSTC on it maybe warped and the only solution is to purchase a new one which is somewhere in the $1000+.

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

Much appreciated.

IF you look close the headlight will have 2 white parts to adjust the level. You may also consider to go to your local dealer to read the code, from what i know most of the volvo dealers now doesnt charge for that. Other shops with normal diagnostic tool will not find the codes, just Vida/Dice.

Thanks for the feed back.

I will have to explain my hesitation to bring it to the fully authorised volvo workshop. I live in perth australia and there is only one dealership that have this ability. And it also happens to be the same dealership that does ferrari's, lambo's aston's and every other supercar you can think.

They are notorious for being inconsiderate for the budget minded. Which kind of goes against my cost effective goal for getting this car. I mean if it has to be done then it has to be done.

To give you an indication on the crazy price i asked for a price for a basic service which i assume is a safety check on components and a oil change will cost me approx $530USD...... so yeah.

If you plan to keep this car for long time ineill consider to get the dealer tool called vida/dice, it will allow you to do everything the dealer does less download softwares. It cost about 150-200 usd

Way I understand you only get 1 free hour of diagnostics with if you're a new owner. Apparently it's the Volvo For Life program or something along those lines.

I wouldn't follow too closely on it as my dealers refuse to honor it.

I have looked up the vida/dice unit and i assume that volvo specialist would most definitely have this tool not just authorised volvo repair centre's.

The DSTC problem was looked at by a volvo specialist and he said nothing was being logged, though i cannot say with 100% certainty that he used that tool.
