Yeah so i have a bad tranny in my 94 850 Turbo. I could go and stick another automatic tranny in there, but hey might as well spend a little extra and go manual. So I called Paul's Volvo today and scheduled an appointment to have a manual swap done. The price difference is a little more than I expected, but oh well. The service writer was excited to talk about it, because he is about to do the same swap to his 96 850 T. With the manual and a piggyback ECU & exhaust, the car can easily get 300hp at the crank. Later plans are to do an LSD and beef up the suspension. He says that the manual tranny, unlocks the cars hidden potential. Luckily I have a model of Volvo that was designed to have a manual tranny as an option, therefore lessening the cost of a conversion. So yeah, should be done in about two weeks, depending on parts availability. I am all gitty like a school boy.

Re: New tranny...new car? (MrMatt-n-abrick)

If you don't mind me asking, what is the approximate cost to convert to a manual tranny? I have been thinking about it lately since my only regret with the 850R is it's an auto........I'd love to put a handshaker in there, the car was meant to have one.

94 850 turbo, worth maybe $3000 on a good day.
To convert to a 5 speed has to cost you AT LEAST $4000 or more.
Makes no sense

$2500-$3000 Estimated.
The car is in too good condition to just let go. Besides, with luck I can get another 100k out of the car.
I have grown very fond of the car, and I miss having a manual.
I think his name is Danny. If Im not mistaken, he is doing the same swap to his 850.

I am used to wasting money. Before Volvo's I was into Volkswagens. Own a Corrado with turbo conversion and then tell me about wasting money.

in case you didn't know..
before you run out and spend a good bit of $ on a trans, check out http://www.car-part.com
its a nationwide search of junkyards based on your criteria. they list the part, description, model/year, price, condition, etc. i have bought quite a bit from yards using that search tool. when i had to put a new engine in my blazer, i found one in great condition with 90 day warranty for $500.
hope you can find it useful.

MrMatt-n-abrick, I too know about wasting money(though perhaps not on your level): I own a Scirocco-your Corrados older sibling

i agree, i would take that 4g's and put it towards an 850r, even being auto's still more fun than a 94
