So, I'll be getting a new tranny put in my car soon and I was just hoping some of you who might know better could let me know if I'm forgetting anything important! So far, the laundry list includes:
- 3 bottles of tranny fluid (stupid 0.1 liter...)
- clutch assembly
- slave cylinder
(- brake/clutch fluid? should I pick that up?)
- rear main seal (any other seals or anything?)
- front transmission mount(? figure it can't hurt...)
If anyone knows of anything else I might need to get this tranny swapped out right, please let me know!
Thanks!

Re: New tranny (manual): anything I'm forgetting? (StarmanDXE)

Perhaps someone to do the job who knows how to, instead of the blind leading the blind?!
Or...at least have someone help you who has done this before

Re: New tranny (JRL)

Oh god, I'm definitely not doing it myself! I was trying my best not to imply that by the wording. I'm going to get all of the stuff and take it to a mechanic for them to do. Just trying to make sure I'm not forgetting anything.

Well your getting your tranny replaced, so most of the subframe is going to be out (depending on how the tech does it)
So how are your subframe bushings, Control arm bushings, Engine mount - The tech will be in there so could just do it all now

No clue how they are. Any idea how long these bushing/mounts generally last?
IPD's prices...

I'd like to avoid replacing unnecessary things as much as possible
Although, even if I cut out ~$150 worth of stuff from that, if I need to replace it in the future, the cost of added labor would have canceled out any savings!

Ouch, Didn't realize how much all that would cost
The Subframe Bushings P/N 3507924, 3507923 are $25 from Tascafordparts.com, That would save you $40 bucks (Really $50 but with $10 Shipping = $40)

Also Slave Cylinder P/N 8667661 IS $117 From Tasca
Thanks for the replies. I think I'm just going to bite-the-bullet and spend the thousands now so that I can keep this car for another ~70k miles easy. :-/
Tried calling Darrell Waltrip Volvo, but apparently they get so many calls now they said to just send an email! Will see what kind of prices they quote me

If the transmission mount is good, keep it. Also, I hear GM syncromesh transmission fluid is pretty good. I'm actually going to change my fluid out with this, next time around.

Is this a new/rebuilt or just "new to you" (used) tranny? If used, the halfshafts will already be out of the tranny, so replace the halfshaft seals and the front input shaft seal since they're only like 5 bucks and 30 seconds labor each.

I plan to replace that for the peace of mind, so doing those seals sounds like a good call as well.

What?!?! You're letting Pep Boys do a tranny swap on a Volvo, a P2 Volvo to be exact?
I'd rather have Justin do the work as he knows his stuff. Just watch him so your stuff doesn't make its way over to the '01 XC70-M, LOL!
FWIW, you get what you pay for, and that includes labor.
