Hello,
I am looking to buy a 850 LPT sedan or S70 GLT LPT. I will be new to Volvos, I would love to get a T5 or R sedan but they are pretty hard to come by here in the midwest on the used market. I have seen some people saying that you can upgrade the chip on the ECU of the low pressure turbo engines for increased performance. I would be wanting the car as a daily driver, but I am the type that likes a sleeper. I had been thinking about a wagon in case some of you saw me on the XC forums, but have decided to go back to a sedan. So.. My ? is, Can you reliably upgrade the low pressure motors in this way? How much will it effect fuel economy and reliability? Should I try to find a pre-ETS model (I have heard alot of nightmares on other forums) Sorry to be so windy, thanks.

Re: New to Volvos/ a couple ?'s (mnswede)

Do not be afraid of 99+ ETM issues. As long as they have been repaired, it is a non-issue. IPD makes quality tunes that maintain reliability while increasing the fun factor. Benefit of 99+ when reprogramming is that you can do it with a software upgrade through the OBDII port while 98's have to have the ECU removed to have the EPROM removed and a new one resoldered. Before any modding is done to any vehicle, the health of the engine and driveline must be reviewed to determine if repairs are needed before extra stress is added. Search "stage zero" for all applicable items that need to be checked. Fuel economy is wholly dependent on your right foot
