New TechNote Bulletin On Wheel Bearing Failures-2003 through 2007!!!

Clearly this is an actual design flaw, not simply a "bad batch of bearings" It affects the yet to be released 2007 Model year!! It sounds like the location you live in and water exposure may cause some of the issue, or maybe salt water from winter, etc???
Anyone know the cost of bearing replacement without a warranty??
Rear Wheel Bearing Noise and Water Ingress
Item: TNN77-16-2006-04-21 Page Count: 1
Some customers may complain of noise coming from the rear wheel bearings. The wheel bearings may also be difficult to remove from the axles. XC90 2003-2007

Thanks for the link, but it looks like you must pay to get the details of the TNN.
I am curious what Volvo is stepping up to do to resolve the issue.
Thanks...

in a couple of weeks it will be posted on all data and then we can get the details posted here (I checked, that tech note is not up yet, they lag a few months).

At first I thought it was a tire. If I swerved the vehicle left and right I could make it come and go. I then realized it was not tires. This same thing happened to my wifes XC70 recently. Ended up being wheel bearings. Seems they have a problem in this area...

As the weeks progressed it got worse. Took it to the dealership and they replaced the right rear bearing.

Re: (1sttimevolvo)

My XC90 is still in the shop waiting for a new axle from Sweden. It's been two weeks now that I've been without the Volvo. It sure will be nice getting back into that vehicle after driving a rental Ford Explorer POS for these past two weeks.
The sound from my XC90 also got progressively louder until it became apparent something was wrong and needed to be checked out. It made a loud humming sound inside vehicle.
I just hope after waiting two weeks or more they aren't just replacing the whole axle with the same problem bearings.

Re: New TechNote Bulletin On Wheel Bearing Failures-2003 through 2007!!! (Colorado XC90 T6)

Thanks for bringing this up. I had to pay for the replacement of both rear bearings at 53,000 miles (of course just outside the warranty period ).
The total cost for both was $812.49, $460 for labor+$324.24 for two bearings+$28.25 for shop supplies/waste disposal. Arrrgh!!!
This got me thinking that I should write Volvo NA and demand my money back. It appears this is a wide spread problem and clearly a design flaw.

If you are having a problem with the bearings, you can hear very noticeable, loud, excessive noise coming from the rear. Just brought my 90 in on tuesday for the noise and had both rear bearings replaced, and noticed an immediate difference. Service for having them replaced took only about 2 hours, and is covered under warranty (obviously).

Re: New TechNote Bulletin On Wheel Bearing Failures-2003 through 2007!!! (drewmin21)

Picked up my XC90 V8 in October. Started with the rear end noise after a wet winter. Noise was load but the local dealer could not get me scheduled till after Memorial Day weekend and said it was OK to drive to Amsterdam. (Nice weekend) Oh, the noise. Got it in the shop on tuesday and both rear bearings were totally shot. No charge and covered under warranty. Drives like new again! Service manager showed me the defective bearing packs and explained how the new ones help prevent moisture from getting in.
Cheers!
