So I took my car in and the guy said that it needs new shocks and struts and is throwing a code for running rich. Any idea on why rich? and is it normal for shocks and struts to wear at 60,000?

Re: New Shocks/Stuts at 60,000? Running Rich? (chromecarz00)

If your car is only noisy over bumps, but there is no noticeable ride difference, your struts are probably fine, Your strut mounts plates/ bearings are probably bad though. Its a common problem on 2004.5 and up s40's Is he sure its a code for rich? Often times if your dipstick is loose or the oil filler cap is off youll get lean codes.

No its noise overall as well. He actually showed me where the tires were cupped and chopped. Also its time for an oil change and new brakes and rotors; are there any aftermarket options for any of the above that are close to the price of stock?

You should ask them what diameter they are, though, and compare it to what's on your car. <p>And, Hawk HPS pads are good. I have and like them.<BR><BR>

Most struts can/will and do go at around 60k. How noticeable it is, is another thing. <p>The fluid breaks down over time and loses its ability to rebound and damper the same as it does when new. The degredation is so slow that you usually won't notice it, until you put brand new ones on.

Re: (chromecarz00)

running rich is usually because a O2 sensor is bad or reading incorrect.<p><br>Options for lowering if you go OEM are simply springs, but it will not ride as well as a set of shocks and springs meant to go together.<p>Also usually OEM stuff is more expensive then aftermarket.

Re: (dannyman1035)

All 2.4i's have the smaller brakes because they aren't as fast or weigh as much so hence dont need the 320 rotors that some T5 and T5 AWD S40s get
