Anyone have any recommendations on new shocks? I'm taking my 850 in to IPD next week for replacements. I don't want to blow a lot of money on mods really, but want a little better handling with a smooth ride (my wife will never drive the car if it rides like a lumber wagon). I'm kind of torn between the Bilstein touring class and the standard Boge shocks/struts. Anything will be an improvement over the 163k mile original shocks currently on the car (every bump feels like someone is kicking me in the arse, and the car feels like it is all over the place). Thanks for the input!
Cheers,
-Brad

Re: New shocks/struts on 850 turbo (flyawayak)

We own one wagon with Bilstein HD on the front with the Boge on the back, feels solid and surefooted without being harsh, except on the worst of pavement surfaces.
Just installed the Bilstein TC on all four corners of the other wagon, and it seems a little rough.
Sounds as if I would install the Boge all around from what you describe in your post.

Re: New shocks/struts on 850 turbo (castconcrete)

One vote for the Boge's .... I like the idea of better handling, but ride is definitely an issue as far as my wife is concerned (happy wife= happy life). Anyone else with first hand experience either way?

Konis sports will give you the nicest ride with great handling/steering.
Not rough, just precise but pricey!

Re: New shocks/struts on 850 turbo (JRL)

Thanks...looked at Koni's. Unfortunately the price is a little steep for a $2900 car, but I'm planning to put those on our '02 XC this winter. I'm looking forward to the improvement.

I replaced my stock shocks/struts with the Bilstein TCs. If I were to do it again, I would either get the Bilstein HDs or something cheap. I'm not sure the TCs were worth the money.

Re: (gregseto)

I went with the Boge's ...not going to be a track machine, but the price was right. I also got a surprise...apparently there were Nivomats in the back, so I did a conversion back to OEM springs. (I neglected to crawl under and pay closer attention when I first got the car.) They must have been fairly rare on 850's, but were definitely shot. The new springs and Boge shock combination provides a decent balance of ride and handling.
