Glad to join you guys. I will say I dont know much about Volvo's yet and I had no idea this car even existed but I am very glad I found it. Being from Seattle area I really wanted an AWD commuter and I didn't want another Subaru. After seeing the R for the 1st time I was very impressed with the interior and options it has, then a test drive confirmed that I could see myself driving this everyday and not getting bored like I would with an Japanese import, needing something under $10k I didnt think this car would be available to me since $10k here gets you an ok Subaru not even an STi. After negotiating a good price it was easy to sign up and join the team! Now my wife isn't the only one with an AWD in the driveway:cool:

Nice cars! Welcome. I am also a new VR owner. Same color. I also bought mine so I could stop driving my 400hp turbo BMW E34 to work every day :) Is that a 550? I considered getting one of those instead of the R but I don't like the E60 tourings..

I would guess no. Judging my his comment of two AWD cars in the driveway, I would say it is a 535xi, 530xi, or 528xi. I don't recall the exact engine offerings in the USA, but don't believe BMW offered a 8-cyl 5-series with AWD in the USA.

And OP, welcome to the R club! I also shopped Subaru (albeit Legacy wagon) when shopping for my R. The Subarus are good cars and last a long time, but they certainly don't feel premium like the R does! My story's link is in my signature.

I didn't notice that last line. You are correct good sir. The front bumper threw me off.

Congrats and great choice. We have a Subie in the drive as well (Legacy Outback wagon) and as qwkbrk said, it just doesn't have the feel of the Volvo. The Subie is great, but I can't ride in it for more than an hour or 2 without starting to ache. Even the Taurus has better comfort than the Subaru. Granted, mines an older one ('99 with 135,000) and I sure can't fault the mechanicals... but it just doesn't light a fire anywhere.

The BMW is a 530xi, after driving this for awhile it definately helped me pull the trigger on the R, I love nice interiors on cars and since thats where we spend most of our time it only made sense to buy the R over a Subaru

Nice! I'm a new member in the Seattle area as well - but welcome.
I just picked up my 2011 S40 R with Polestar last week. (Black Saphire)
I just couldn't get used to the feeling of AWD cornering when going through the test drives which lead me to the FWD 2011.
We do have a 4WD Honda Pilot for use should seriously nasty driving conditions get in the way.
I'd include a pic but the wife says it's bad luck to take a pic of your car...never had a problem before but I'm not taking any chances!

Australian aboriginals believe if you take their picture, you steal their soul. Your wife may be right.... Not worth the risk.....

But until then, your driving an 86 camry with gold badges.

For you Seattle / Washington members, I will be at Pacific Raceways on the 13th of July (Next Friday) for the road course witha friend that has a Audi RS4. Im not running the R on the road course. Still have some classes to ataend before I can do that. But we will be running the 1/4 mile in the evening, Anyone interested in meeting up? A tech card (what is needed to race) is $30.00. That gets you on the drag strip 1/4. Hoping to run a 13.99 w/ a stock 6mt on race fuel.
