Does anybody have information on the new ignition key that will come with the 2004 R cars? I found the following thread http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=6227, but the picture in the initial posting doesn't show up anymore. Thanks.
Craig

Re: New R Key (cvs)

There is probably a place to attach a keyring on the side opposite where the key flips out of. My VW key has a place for a keyring at corner opposite the silver button and where the key is hinged.
RJ

This has probably been asked before but would it work with the older gen 70 series. That would loobe cool.

So, how about for those who wish to use aftermarket security system? Having a key like that would be point less then?

You could always use the switchblade key for security.

I have opened up an 850 Turbo once in a parking lot. Both mine and his lights flashed but I wasn't parked near him. Guess his car picked up my signal. Also got another 850 to go into panic mode by unlocking my car. And I have unlocked a friend's dad's Passat (new body style) when we were parked next to each other. That was pretty funny. Walked up to my car, press the unlock button and both cars unlocked. Of course I couldn't get his to lock again, but that is the good thing of rolling codes, I suppose.
RJ

I have been rold that the ignition module spits (each time you oress "unlock" on the key fob) out a rolling code which comes out of approximately 1,500,000 codes stored inside that module...that is an improvement over the older generation Volvos with their less complex ignition/security modules.
Yannis

If you had 2 different key fobs for the car, how would the second fob get updated to the new random code since only one was pressed. I am confused are you?

Re: New R Key (defgh1)

OK...I got you. Each fob (of the two) has a code that is specifically matched to the security system of that particular car, hence the necessity to download software to program each new remote into the car (when you add and/or replace a remote device). Once they are programmed, they can have access to the car. Then, your key's chip has to match (every time you turn the ignition switch) one of the 1,500,000 codes chosen randomly.
Yannis
