after a long and gruesome search, i finally bought a Silver on black leather '00 S70 (sunroof and wood-grain trim) with only 54.000 miles. i feel i overpaid ($7900) but my mechanic did say it was in excellent condition.
so being this my first used car, i'm not feeling like it's mine yet. so i want to personalize both the interior and exterior, mainly cosmetic. not sure if i should upgrade it mechanically.
any suggestions?

First you did NOT overpay if the car's condition matches the mileage.
You're almost due for the 60K service, do it now along with a timing belt and tensioner.
(You're at 10 years, 3 years overdue on time)

Definitely do what JRL has said.
As for interior mods, hmmm;
Audio upgrades, new head unit with ipod capabilites / sub;
Aluminum pedals;
Dash mounted bobble heads;
Exterior upgrades I am not sure about for a S70. All body kits look way to foofy IMO.
Mechanical mods are where its at by the way. Once you get sucked in there is no turning back.

Re: New owner of '00 S70 GLT ... mod recommendations? (scorpioneyes)

Not much to mod externally, IMHO. I put a new set of wheels on my GLT when I bought in January. I would like to do the grill and clear headlights but that will have to wait awhile. Interior mods have consisted of replacing all the burned out bulbs, lol, and a new leather automatic shift knob.
Check out Chris' posts about his return to Volvo and some great things he has done to his '98 T5 wagon.

I had given up on replacing it because it still ran ok and I carpooled daily with a friend's car. But then while doing a routine oil change, my mechanic noticed a leak in the water pump (?) because the oil leak was burning it up. On top of that the brake fluid was leaking slightly. So he said find something real soon. So I found this on carfax.com the very same day, sitting at a Mercedes dealership. If I had a choice, I would've bought another wagon, but this was too good to pass up.

Quote, originally posted by volvie! »

Well, if you follow Volvospeed's trends: tint, wheels, spoilers, and headlights are where its at.
Other popular external mods include front R bumper and mesh or egg-crate grille.

Do you have any pics of an R bumper on an S70?
Here's an image of a car for sale a while ago on IPD; I really like the grill and clear lens:
And thanks for all the links. Re: New owner of '00 S70 GLT ... mod recommendations? (850arrrsaylikepirate)

wow, i love that bumper. thanks Volvie, for all the links to the threads.
so the R bumper fits all 70 series models; does this include the rear bumper as well? or do you recommend the front bumper only. i'm assuming i can just buy this new from a volvo parts dealer.
also, the car has it's normal wear on tear /scratches throughout the car. would i need to paint the entire car just to match the new bumpers, or would it look mismatched by adding the newly painted bumper to the car?

Re: (kentis19)

The entire lower half juts out forward where a normal 70 bumper actuallyforms backwards.
In person there's a big difference.
All the lower grills are different and shaped differently, the regular 70 series lower grills will not fit, the openings also are very different
Here look at mine close up;

From the middle line of the bumper down it's quite different, you have about a 2" lower "shovel" that goes forward where a regular bumper goes BACKWARDS.
It makes the car look longer (it is), and makes the entire car look lower!
