Hello to all from New Orleans:

I just purchased a new 2011 S60 T6 for my wife. It had been sitting on the lot for a good long time. It has a build date of 11/10 and had 38 miles when we took it for a test drive - 58 at delivery on 6/8/12. It has the following options: Premium Package, Electric Silver Metallic Paint, Navigation Prep, and the PCC. We have driven it about 350 miles this weekend and the car is awesome!!!:D

Here comes the questions .......

1. We are of course getting the Maintenance Overdue message. Should I just reset it according to the guidelines on the forum or should I bring it to the dealer? The vehicle had been sitting on the lot for about 1.5 years.

2. I have noticed many threads regarding updates to the transmission and to the sensus. What specific updates should I request? I did check to see if the "sport mode" had been added and it did not look like it. So, I doubt any updates have been completed. Should I wait until 7500 miles.

3. I have read many many threads over the past few days and over the months that I had been considering the vehicle, Anything else is a must know?

Thanks for your help. I have attached a few pics - not the best since it has been raining here in New Orleans for the past 4 days on and off.

Congratulations on your new S60!

Its been sitting for 1.5 years? Volvo points out maintenance at-least once a year regardless if driven enough to meet the free service requirements if you want to peruse this.

If you get the tranny jerking between 30-40 mph and it bothers you, get the software updates or if you want more aggressive throttle tip-in from the sport mode. I've learend you have to make update requests in the form of a complaint to get updates :D.

If you do sirus radio and go under a lot of underpasses, its been said the Senus 3.0 bumps the buffer upto the full 4 seconds for less dropout.

I cant think of anything else so hope you both enjoy your S60!

Congrats!

Congrats on the new S60. You may also have a number of recalls that need to be taken care of. It's sad such a beautiful car was sitting on the lot for so long, but I'm glad it found a home!

I have a 2011 T6 with a 10/10 build date I purchased last August. So I suspect it has the same
software as you have (when it was delivered). My dealer applied the latest software updates at
the 7500 mile service and that included the Sport mode. I did not have to ask for that. I did
ask for an Audio System update to get the search option for IPOD connectivity which they did.
But the new Sensus 3.0 software release will have all of that. The earlier audio system patches
were applied on complaint but Senus 3.0 is "formal release".

Note the software update that included the sport mode was a regular update they do at every
service (at least at my dealer). There are many posts here that indicate a wide range of service
(and satisfaction) between dealers regarding software updates. So you might have to ask for all
the latest updates but you should not have too. Software updates are complimentary with any
scheduled service so they might not do it if there is no other service to be performed.

I would ask the dealer to reset the service light now since it will soon warn you that service is overdue.

I kind of wonder if oil that has been sitting for a year and a half should be changed? I honestly
don't know.

Also note the Safe and Secure plan covers 5 years/60K miles on a 2011 (vs. 5 year/50K miles on
2012+). So you have that going for you, too :)

Thanks for the feedback. Actually I learned that safe and secure is only good for 50000 miles on my 2011 since it was purchased in 2012. The dealer did inform me when I inquired at purchase. I was able to confirm on the website. Has anyone heard differently?

Thanks.

That is not correct - S+S goes with the year of the car, not when it was purchased. I purchased my 2011 S60 this past February and S+S will run the full 5 years/60K miles. That's one of the reasons I went with a 2011 rather than order a 2012.

Many early-production 2011 S60s suffered from excessive wind noise from the A-pillars, caused by leaking side-mirror mount seals. There is a TSB on this issue to which your dealer's service department should be directed if your car has this problem.

Is anyone aware if and when it was changed for the new 2011s still on the lot would change to just 50,000 mile warranty?
This is what I just copied from the volvo website

The Volvo Safe + Secure Coverage Plan when purchasing a 2013, 2012 or 2011 model Volvo includes:

• 5 Years/50,000 miles of Warranty
• 5 Years/50,000 miles of Wear & Tear Coverage Includes Brakes, Rotors and Wiper Blades
• 5 Years/50,000 miles of Complimentary Factory Scheduled Maintenance
• 5 Years/Unlimited miles of Roadside Assistance

Thanks,
Sam

Volvo has documented service intervals for vehicles sitting on the dealer's lot. My dealer neglected to grab that document since mine was OSD.

I got it by googling "safe and secure 60,000."

They changed the benefit to 50,000 for 2012+ cars.

The only possible difference I can see is that when I bought my '11 it was technically classified as "used" whereas yours was sold "new" but I can't imagine that should change it.

I purchased my 2012 T5 in March of 2011. I have the 5 year, 60,000 mile S+S which is an indication that the change is based when when you purchased and not the model year.

You can check for outstanding recalls here using your VIN:

http://www.volvocars.com/us/top/yourvolvo/pages/recallinformation.aspx

You can also a paid subscription for technical information from a third party source: alldatadiy.com
They have info on the 2011 model year. Look for coupon codes: http://www.couponchief.com/alldatadiy
to get the price down to something like $20. It includes all the technical service bulletins. Helpful
if you are a do-it-yourselfer type or you just want some extra info. I actually don't use it that often
but the price is low enough that just being able to see the service bulletins is worth it.

Has anyone done their own oil changes on their 2011/12 S60 T6? If so, did you use the Mann Filter HU9254Y? I am considering doing an oil and filter change at about 3,000 miles. Any pointers?

I went to the dealer the other day to see if they are any open recalls or software updates. He did mention that recall 247 can be done but it is no big deal. He said the computer screen did not have any software updates listed for my vehicle. I don't know if that would be true since I see many threads about software updates and mine has a build date of 11/10. Ideas on the updates? I definitely do not currently have the sport mode. Is that even a possibility on the 2011s.

Here is another PIC. Hopefully the T6 looks as nice as the 9-5 when it is 13 years old.

Thanks.

A situation was noticed this morning when I called Volvo. My dealer sold me a new car with 58 miles on it with all documentation/sales slip/financing showing NEW and when I called volvo the in-service date was 9/30/11. They told me that it could have been that someone was going to purchase it but decided not to. I have a call into the dealer and hopefully they can rectify this and get the date changed to 6/8/12. If not things could get quite interesting!

Anyone had this happen to them? How was it rectified? Whenever I purchase a new vehicle I always like to have the in-service date checked for the warranty in case their is an error. This was the first time I ever had a problem.

What happened is your dealer "RDR'd" your vehicle. They reported it sold to Volvo on 9/30/11. Dealers sometimes do this on old inventory to technically get it off the Volvo books. This is not a rare thing. Happens time to time. They should have told you upfront about this but maybe the sales person was not aware.

krn: could you create a stand-alone thread with that info and make it sticky? I prefer to change my own oil and am not willing to wait for the factory interval.

#31 ·
The frustrating part is the warranty which is 9 months less and there was no documentation to the fact. It is unfortunate that now when purchasing a vehicle I will need to ask for them to do a print screen showing that the vehicle does not have a previous in service date.

Before purchasing the vehicle I inquired about the warranty and asked specifically if they bought the vehicle since it was a year old or was it still being floor planned - this was asked by me of the sales manager.

Do dealers typically do sometime of goodwill to rectify this? I am working with the sales manager so hopefully we can come to an amicable solution.

Thanks.

The dealer called back and said he spoke with his rep who is going to have the RPR date set correctly to 6/8/12. I will let everyone know how it turns out when I check with the corporate office in the next few days.

Good luck with this. I called VCNA today to check on the in-service dates for my cars since my XC90 was built in June 2009 and I bought it in Mar 2010. Titled new. The cust service guy said dealers do what happened to you all the time and that Volvo is not happy about them not being forthcoming. There may be some leverage there.
