New Gears

951 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Kai
A friend of mine is in the process of replacing his gears on his 2002 Mustang GT, claims that it will cut a full second or more off his quater mile time. Does anyone know if this is possible for the s60 t5...? and if so were you can get those gears, and the performance it will give you..
Thanks,
~Spencer~

ANYTHING is possible when you have spare "dinero" to spend!

Your car's description seems pretty cool! Got any pictures, especially with those 18" rims?

Sure. Lowering the gearing of the main drive is a sure way to increase acceleration. Remember your 10 speed bike. It was easier to get started with the chain round the big cog that the little one. Of course you lose top end. Swings and roundabouts.

Now....if you had a Mustang or a Vette or some other very common rwd car this would be a breeze to buy and install but you (we) have fwd volvos (actually I also have a RWD and a Vette
) and there aren't 75 firm's knocking out affordable differentials that appear in Summit and Jegs catalogs..

Another relatively cheap option is to get a torque converter with a higher stall speed than stock. This will allow much quicker launches. On the C5 Vettes, this $300 part will net you 1/2 sec in the 1/4! Again, know anyone making torque converters for S60s?? If they are, betcha its more than $300

As far as pictures go... I will take some as soon as i get around to them.... hopefully next few weeks... Or as soon as i get my ground effects lighting done... Umm... Gear Wise any suggestions on were to start looking for gears.... Will that fact that my car is not a stick effect the gears or torque converter...??????????

Thanks
Spencer
You could try and get an ETCC spec diff.
I think it is 4.56:1 instead of 4:1.
What company, were, and how much can i get that gear????????
Thanks,
Spencer
