It's time I replace the rotors and pads on my 850. I didn't get a big brake kit, but I am stepping up to cross drilled rotors. I am also planning on painting the calipers to make the new setup look more fresh. I haven't done this before but have printed out a few good instructions with pictures and helpful hints.
My question is this. How do I know how many shims to use in the install? Do I compare it to what is originally there, or is there a better easier way to judge this? Any other helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: New brakes on my T5R, shims question? (jarediii)

i assume u mean the shims to reduce noise? u only need one behind each pad, with a decent application of anti-brake squeal lube. just don't get the lube anywhere on the pad friction surface or the rotor, otherwise, u won't be able to stop

Thanks for the hints.
I am going to have the calipers off w/o pads on it anyways, because I am replacing the rotors. So we won't have to worry about painting the rotors or pads.
Anyone else finding it hard to have someone turn your rear cross drilled rotors? I found someone to do the fronts, but everyone else is claiming they are scared or don't have the proper brackets to properly turn the drilled rears.
