I'd love to see user customizable avatars. It's something most forums has and I think a forum of this size should be able to accommodate it as well (especially at the size of 72x70 pixels). Maybe it should be a feature reserved for established users, e.g members with 200 or more posts? Or that in combination with x months of membership (to avoid post whoring).
Either way, I just went through the predefined avatars and for a Volvo-forum I'm a bit disappointed to see there weren't really any Amazon (120) avatars. So I made two! Both are desaturated and at my best edited to work in the small format. I did leave the indicators colored on the first one just as a subtle touch though in case it's too much color I made one completely desaturated.

Personally, I like that SwedeSpeed limits avatars to a limited selection. While everyone would love to use a picture of their own car, I've seen many forums where members post crude phrases or pornographic images for their avatar. SwedeSpeed is "family friendly" in that respect.
Post something good, and Chris will make it an avatar for you.

Well, my Amazon avatar was definitely a crappy edit now that I see fivealive's contributions. I'd really like to see the first and third ones added. As for requesting a personal avatar uploaded I'd have to give that some thought.
I'm sticking with the bandwidth/server resources approach. The major point of avatars is to be able to identify users more easily by a picture by each post rather than having to memorize usernames. Large forum + limited avatar supply is a bad combination if you ask me and as stylish as black and white is it further defeats being able to identify people by avatars. I'm not sure how to add these to the catalog of avatars, but if you would like to change your personal avatar to something custom, PM me. So long as it is appropriate and in theme with the forum, we should be able to make it happen.

Sorry, but I'm not about to download a zip file from a website that I know nothing about.
As I mentioned previously, I do not know how to add avatars to the SwedeSpeed catalog. It is most likely locked to just admin.
